Lead a small talented team of product designers, providing coaching and mentorship to help them grow their skills and deliver market-leading customer experiences to our users
Hands-on Designer able to lead the team from the front, while also being an effective coach and mentor to our talented team of designers
Oversee end-to-end UX design output of the team across desktop, mobile web and app and provide information architecture, user research, and other key skills to complement the team
Build a design culture, set of tools, practices, and frameworks that enable us to understand and focus on our users’ needs, ensuring the customer always has a seat at the table
Create clarity from ambiguity – there is no “one answer” in a market as broad as Africa, but we look at how we can make qualified bets to serve our users that we can iterate on top of
Provide concrete, actionable feedback to the design team, helping them delivery high-quality work while also deepening their skills and career progression
Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to design and build compelling experiences for our users
Implement an iterative user research program that enables us to start fast and smart, grow insights over time, including interviews, experimentation, testing, and post-launch review
Build a robust design team and design culture across the organization by mentoring designers, partnering with Product and Engineering, and promoting user-centered design
Develop a compelling brand voice that speaks to the unique aspirations of Africa
Requirements
8+ years of experience as a UX Lead and Product designer, including 4+ years in a leadership role managing designers and researchers (Product, Visual, UX, IA, Brand, User Research, etc.)
Degree in Design, Human Factors, or equivalent experience in a rigorous design-led organization
Strong portfolio showcasing individual project experience and team leadership experiences
Strong product logic and user-centered design experience
Solid track record of project management and delivery, in-house or in an agency capacity
Experience in FinTech, Financial Services, Gig Economy, and Super-App industries all a strong plus, but intellectual curiosity is essential
Experience working in a fast-paced tech start-up environment and thrive in ambiguity
Strong communicator who can articulate design rationale, tell our brand story, and convey ideas in a clear and compelling manner to both technical and non-technical audiences
Excellent knowledge of mobile and front-end interaction standards and design patterns, as well as supporting development best practices from a design standpoint
Deep understanding of design research, performance metrics, user experience design process and methodology. Measuring success in terms of human and business impact
Highly proficient in Figma and other relevant design tools
Lived, worked or studied in – or simply have a passion for – Africa
