We are currently seeking an exceptional and highly experienced individual to fill the critical role of Director, US International Tax within Palo Alto Networks' Tax team. This pivotal position requires a proven US tax expert with profound expertise in US regulations and requirements, a thorough understanding of relevant tax laws, and the ability to offer strategic guidance on tax legislation and developments on a global scale.

In this role, you will be instrumental in building and designing the team and priorities, assuming the lead of strategic projects, driving US International provision compliance and reporting per ASC 740, and providing invaluable support for our global tax planning initiatives. You will lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of tax professionals, fostering a collaborative and dynamic environment.

Your Impact

  • The Director, US International Tax will work with the tax team leadership to ensure compliance with tax regulations and optimize the company's global tax position, with a strong focus on US international tax matters. Key responsibilities include:
  • Building, leading, developing, and mentoring a strong performing team of tax professionals, and playing a key leadership role within the Global Tax organization
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive US international tax strategies that align with business goals, minimize liabilities, and optimize cash flow, including advising on acquisitions, new jurisdictions, and structuring global investments
  • Advising on intercompany transactions, ensuring US compliance and tax efficiency in cross-border charges
  • Leading and conducting thorough tax research on complex US international tax issues, engaging in special projects such as tax planning, M&A, and corporate initiatives
  • Having overall responsibility for US International tax provision purposes in compliance with ASC740, including E&P, Subpart F, FDII, GILTI, and foreign tax credit calculations for quarterly and annual reporting
  • Managing and reviewing all U.S. international compliance forms (e.g., Forms 5471, 8858, 8990, 8991, 8992, 8993, 1118) and related disclosures, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of external filings
  • Monitoring international areas to identify and mitigate potential tax exposure, including compliance with ASC 740.10 for international tax matters
  • Liaising with and managing external accounting firms for US international compliance matters and examinations, minimizing proposed adjustments
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the tax function, leveraging technology and best practices
  • Keeping current on developments in global tax that may affect the business, analyzing legislation, participating in modeling scenarios, and communicating tax-related information effectively to stakeholders

Your Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive tax consulting, compliance, and reporting experience in Big 4 and US multinational corporate tax departments (Tech Industry preferred), including leading strategy, advising, driving, reviewing, and managing US international tax compliance, reporting, and planning
  • CPA, LLM, or JD highly desirable; active CPA license (MST or M.Acc. preferred) or bar admission (LL.M. in Taxation preferred) required
  • Deep US international tax expertise with a US-headquartered multinational corporation, thoroughly versed in ASC 740 principles, and a strong understanding of international tax, Sub C, and transfer pricing concepts, rules, and regulations
  • Excellent knowledge of federal income taxation of international operations and transactions, with the ability to lead the team in analyzing and responding to new tax statutes, regulations, rulings, and court decisions for planning and reporting
  • Strong analytical, research, organizational, and project management skills, including tax modeling, quantitative tax analysis, and the ability to translate complex issues into clear, actionable insights for colleagues and management
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and collaborative, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while working effectively as part of a high-performing team
  • Capability to manage, develop, and mentor staff in a collaborative team setting
  • Proficient in Excel modeling, experienced with large data sets, pivot tables, tax preparation software (e.g., Corptax, OneSource), and passionate about technology adoption; skilled in performing tax research using online tools (BNA, CCH, etc.) and consulting with tax advisory team members
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills

Tax Knowledge:

  • Significant, progressive experience advising U.S. and foreign multinationals on complex U.S. international tax matters, including outbound issues (e.g., GILTI, Subpart F, FDII, foreign tax credits, Section 367, income sourcing and characterization, entity characterization rules) and inbound issues (e.g., withholding taxes, FIRPTA, tax treaties, U.S. trade or business taxation)
  • Deep understanding of U.S. international transactional tax issues, including anti-inversion rules (e.g., Sections 367 & 7874) and Subchapter C provisions (e.g., Sections 304, 368, 351, 355, 381-383)

Compensation Disclosure

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be between $208000/YR - $284500/YR.
