It is a senior strategic role, responsible for overseeing financial crime, fraud detection, and compliance models as part of the enterprise Model Risk Management function.This individual will also contribute to the design and implementation of AI risk governance frameworks, with particular focus on the generative AI (GenAI) and agentic AI application oversight, ensuring alignment with Responsible AI and regulatory standards.

• Ensure model/AI practice meets regulatory compliance requirement, strengthening decision-making, protecting customers and safeguarding the company from financial and reputational damage
Model Validation, Risk Identification and Oversight:
- Perform rigorous quantitative and qualitative validation of models in financial crime prevention, fraud detection, and compliance applications to ensure soundness, accuracy, and performance.
- Assess risks within models and machine learning systems using advanced statistical methods, ensuring compliance with the firm's Model Risk Management policies.
- Conduct root-cause analysis of model weaknesses, identifying potential risks tied to misclassification, bias, instability, or model drift.
- Oversee model risk practices for critical applications, including but not limited to:
- Anti-money laundering (AML) systems
- Fraud detection analytics
- Sanctions screening platforms
- Behavioral anomaly and pattern detection
- Provide expert guidance on integrating emerging AI techniques, such as unsupervised learning, natural language processing (NLP), and contextual AI, into financial crime prevention strategies.
AI Risk Governance Framework Design:
- Support First Line of Defense in the development and implementation of an effective AI risk governance framework
- Conduct exploratory research and establish criteria for reviewing, validating, and monitoring new AI applications, such as Gen AI and Agentic AI, to support innovation whilst meeting stringent regulatory requirement
- Contribute to the creation of scalable risk assessment matrices and controls for all stages of AI model lifecycle management – from development to deployment
Team management and Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Manage and develop a small team of highly competent junior team members, fostering technical growth in the model validation, AI governance as well as their leadership capabilities
- Collaborate with model owners, developers, business leaders and various stakeholders to establish and maintain effective controls for fraud, financial crime and compliance models across the organization
- Serve as a reliable resource to address inquiries from auditors, regulators, and external partners, that are related to model and AI risk management
Qualifications
- Education:
- A master’s or advanced degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, financial risk management, or related disciplines. Ph.D. preferred.
- Experience:
- More than 10 years of experience in model risk management, validation, and/or oversight within financial crime prevention, fraud detection, or compliance domains.
- Demonstrated success in designing and implementing AI risk governance frameworks, with a strong focus on GenAI and agentic AI systems.
- Proven track record in regulatory compliance alignment across risk and model management activities (e.g., OCC 2011-12, SR 11-7, GDPR).
- Technical Competencies:
- Advanced proficiency in machine learning techniques (e.g., XGBoost, random forests, CNNs/RNNs, GANs) and statistical modeling methods.
- Robust coding skills for big data and AI systems, including Python, SQL, TensorFlow, Hadoop, and Spark.
- Familiarity with anomaly detection, clustering methods, risk scoring, and natural language models for compliance analytics.
- Core Skills:
- Exceptional communication, writing, and presentation skills to convey technical concepts to stakeholders at all seniority levels (executives, regulators, auditors, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving and leadership abilities, with experience leading cross-functional teams on complex AI governance projects.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
