As ayou will be responsible for designing and developing advanced materials for next-generation computer hardware technologies, with a particular focus on liquid cooling systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and product designers, to integrate new materials into hardware designs.
You will:
- Conduct research and development of new materials for computer hardware applications, including thermal management and liquid cooling systems.
- Develop and optimize material properties to enhance performance, reliability, and efficiency of computer hardware components.
- Perform material characterization, testing, and analysis to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in material science and technology trends to drive innovation. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate findings and progress to stakeholders.
- Participate in the patenting process for novel materials and technologies developed.
Essential Requirements
- Materials Expertise: Deep understanding of various materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and liquids) and their properties, including mechanical, thermal, and chemical characteristics.
- Bonding Techniques: Proficient in different bonding methods (welding, soldering, adhesive bonding) and their applications, ensuring optimal material compatibility and performance.
- Liquids: Skilled in the properties and behaviors of liquids, including viscosity, surface tension, conductivity (thermal & electrical), and chemical interactions, with specific experience in wetted materials.
- Design Validation: Skilled in validating material choices and designs through simulations, testing, and analysis to ensure they meet required specifications and standards.
- Manufacturing Processes: Knowledgeable about manufacturing techniques and processes, including brazing, friction stir welding, and laser welding. Ensures efficient and cost-effective production while maintaining material integrity and quality. Thermal Conductivity: Thorough understanding of thermal transfer for various materials to enable industry leading transfer performance.
Desirable Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field. Proven experience in material research and development, preferably in the context of computer hardware or electronics.
- Strong knowledge of thermal management techniques and liquid cooling systems. Proficiency in material characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, and thermal analysis.
