TheEnvironmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Controller teamis a newly created function within the Finance division and is responsible for the strategic oversight, execution approach, preparation, analysis, senior governance and ultimate submission of external ESG disclosures for Citigroup globally i.e., US Securities and Exchange Commission ‘SEC’ Climate Disclosures, EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive ‘CSRD’, EU Taxonomy, etc. The successful candidate in this role will be primarily responsible for developing and executing appropriate and effective procedures and controls for various qualitative and quantitative disclosure requirements to ensure compliance with the applicable regulatory guidelines. This role reports to the ESG Controller and will be a critical contributor to the establishment and implementation of the ESG reporting strategy at Citi.

The ESG Controller function’s responsibilities will be global in scope and require working closely with the Sustainability & ESG office, Risk Management, Business Divisions, Finance Controllers and other global functions across the organization for timely and accurate reporting of ESG disclosures, with appropriate controls and governance.


Responsibilities:

  • Participate and contribute to the design and execution of the various governance forums established for critical decision-making, review and challenge of disclosure information and project oversight for Citi’s ESG disclosure obligations.
  • Lead and manage working groups with multiple stakeholders to perform in-depth analysis and review of disclosure requirements, materiality assessments, gap identification and remediations, planning time and resources, and attestations of various disclosures.
  • Define, execute, and monitor controls and procedures for ESG disclosures in collaboration with Risk and Control functions and key ESG stakeholders, including definition of data submission templates.
  • Analyze regulatory requirements for specific quantitative ESG metrics, both owned by Finance and other functions, like, Green Asset Ratio under EU Taxonomy, Financed Emission calculations following GHG (Greenhouse Gases) Protocol and PCAF (Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials) guidelines, etc.
  • Identify and document requirements for data and technology solutions to deliver on the regulatory templates.
  • Ensure compliance with existing regulatory reporting policies, standards and procedures.
  • Develop subject matter expertise on ESG disclosures, keeping current on evolving disclosure trends in the industry, and assisting impact assessment of emerging regulations.
  • Create and maintain ESG reporting procedure documentation.
  • Coordinate with internal auditors or other external reviewers of the information within Citi’s ESG disclosures.
  • Coordinate with international finance and regulatory reporting teams to ensure consistency of disclosures between group and entity levels.


Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable in ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials, Greenhouse Gas Protocol) and industry trends, with willingness to develop expertise
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferred in financial services industry or Big 4 audit/consulting firms
  • Knowledge of financial and/or regulatory reporting and associated systems and processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial services products / systems highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Strong project management and organization skills
  • Self-motivated with ability to make decisions in absence of detailed instructions
  • Good command of spoken and written English
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • SQL and other data analytics skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field. CA and/or CPA preferred.
