TheEnvironmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Controller team
The ESG Controller function’s responsibilities will be global in scope and require working closely with the Sustainability & ESG office, Risk Management, Business Divisions, Finance Controllers and other global functions across the organization for timely and accurate reporting of ESG disclosures, with appropriate controls and governance.
Responsibilities:
- Participate and contribute to the various working groups with multiple stakeholders to perform in-depth analysis and review of disclosure requirements, materiality assessments, gap identification and remediations, planning time and resources, and attestations of various disclosures.
- Execute, and monitor controls and procedures for ESG disclosures in collaboration with Risk and Control functions and key ESG stakeholders, including definition of data submission templates.
- Analyze and document regulatory requirements for specific quantitative ESG metrics, both owned by Finance and other functions, like, Green Asset Ratio under EU Taxonomy, Financed Emission calculations following GHG (Greenhouse Gas Emissions) Protocol and PCAF (Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials) guidelines, etc.
- Calculate key quantitative metrics required for disclosure under ESG reporting regulations (e.g., EU Taxonomy, CSRD).
- Identify and document requirements for data and technology solutions to deliver on the regulatory templates.
- Ensure compliance with existing regulatory reporting policies, standards and procedures.
- Develop subject matter expertise on ESG disclosures, keeping current on evolving disclosure trends in the industry, and assisting impact assessment of emerging regulations.
- Create and maintain ESG reporting procedure documentation.
- Coordinate with internal auditors or other external reviewers of the information within Citi’s ESG disclosures.
- Coordinate with international finance and regulatory reporting teams to ensure consistency of disclosures between group and entity levels.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of related experience
- Knowledgeable in ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, EU Taxonomy) and industry trends, and willing to develop expertise
- Passion for understanding the intersection of business, society and the environment
- 3+ years of relevant experience, within the financial services industry or Big 4 audit/consulting firms
- Understanding of banking products / systems highly preferred
- Good understanding of the Finance, Audit, and/or internal control functions within Financial Services organization
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
- Self-motivated with work through the details with minimal guidance
- Good command of spoken and written English and strong communication skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- SQL and other data analytics skills preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field. CA and/or CPA preferred.
