What the Candidate Will Do:
- Lead and grow the Eater Messaging engineering team, setting direction and ensuring high execution across both platform and user-facing initiatives.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, and Design to define and deliver high-impact promotional messaging strategies that drive business outcomes like growth, conversion, and retention.
- Guide technical design and architecture decisions; ensure the team builds scalable systems for targeting, delivery, and experimentation.
- Coach and mentor junior engineers to help them grow technically and professionally, while fostering a strong, inclusive team culture.
- Drive strategic investments and influence cross-functional stakeholders in a relatively underpowered but high-leverage product area.
Basic Qualifications :
- 3+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring, mentorship, and team development.
- Prior experience as a high-performing back-end or full-stack individual contributor, with the ability to read and review production-level code.
- Experience working on targeting, personalization, notifications, or ads-related systems—preferably at a consumer-scale tech company.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Led teams focused on ads targeting, notification delivery, marketing technology, offers, or promotional messaging at scale
- Demonstrated ability to drive strategy and execution in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Strong product intuition, with experience collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Data Science on hybrid product/platform teams.
- Proven track record of developing junior engineers and scaling early-stage or fast-growing teams.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.
