Your Career
As the Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Japan at Palo Alto Networks, you will lead the policy and government affairs function across the country.
You will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing and managing legislation and public policy issues related to our products/services with Government policy makers. You will engage in the development of public policies, build/maintain influential relationships and help advance strategic business opportunities. You will also serve as a trusted advisor to your Japanese colleagues.
The role is based in the Tokyo office and will require occasional travel to Palo Alto Networks offices in Japan and to our Santa Clara, CA headquarters and our Washington, D.C. offices, as needed.
You will report directly to the Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Japan and Asia Pacific.
Your Impact
Expand and cultivate existing relationships while identifying new key officials, organisations, and stakeholders to elevate Palo Alto Networks' visibility in the cybersecurity and related tech policy communities in Japan.
Develop and execute a comprehensive plan for engagement, ensuring strategic positioning in the cybersecurity and tech policy landscape
Monitor and engage on current and emerging public policy issues, including cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, certifications, data flows, cloud, and privacy, and develop and execute strategies to engage on these policies in the company’s interest
Collaborate with Palo Alto Networks' public sector team to facilitate business conversations with senior government officials, government CIOs, cybersecurity stakeholders, and purchasing influencers of government and other public sector organizations
Support the development and maintenance of strategic relationships within public sector organizations and institutions
Partner closely with the JAPAC legal and policy team members, as well as with the U.S.-based Public Policy and Government Affairs team to ensure consistent approaches and information sharing
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior business leadership in Japan and wider Asia Pacific region and support their efforts to increase company name recognition and operational relationships
Liaise internally with various corporate functions and business leadership to provide timely public policy positions, insights, and written materials in relation to identified policy areas, related business initiatives, and government regulatory activities
Advise internal business leaders and work collaboratively with business units (including, marketing, communications, product management, sales, and others) to ensure that Palo Alto Networks has the information needed to make strategic decisions with critical impact on the company’s business goals
Help Palo Alto Networks continue to build our brand as a strategic partner to Japanese policymakers and as a thought leader in the cybersecurity arena
Present the company's policy positions through written papers, comments, meetings, conferences, and industry associations as required
Manage local representation (e.g. trade and other business associations)
Contribute to speeches and materials for senior executives, identifying thought leadership opportunities and operational partnerships
Your Experience
6+ years of relevant public policy experience
Track record in supporting sales teams and passion for building strategic business relationships
Strong background engaging on cybersecurity, data flows, data localisation, privacy, and AI and related government policies
Network of government, academic, and other influencers in Japan
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships across various constituencies, both inside and outside the organization
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentations)
Excellent interpersonal, relationship management, team, and diplomatic skills
Strong business judgment, strategic thinking, superior work ethic, attention to detail and quality, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure
Ability to work across multiple time zones, countries, and cultures
Law degree is advantageous
Excellent proficiency in the English and Japanese language (speaking and writing)
