This position ensures complaint procedures & processes are followed for the import of GEHC goods across borders. Responsible for planning & execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Ensure brokers perform pre-entry review for import transactions confirming appropriate classification, valuation, country of origin, required customs and other government agency permits and any applicable special program documentation is complete before an import occurs.

  • Work with & manage approved agents to support daily customs clearances, ensure appropriate response to queries and own shipment issue resolution.

  • Prepare periodic reports and metrics on duty, quality, savings, opportunities, risks, accomplishments, and value creation.

  • Conduct periodic business review with brokers along with internal stake holders.

  • Provide advice as needed on new projects, clearance procedures and structuring transactions to support dynamic business priorities and initiatives.

  • Provide advice, counsel, and training to key stakeholders regarding Customs compliance, regulations, and laws.

  • Manage govt. relations with customs authorities, ports as needed.

  • Work with BPO to understand Post Entry Review defects and closure as needed. Ensure record keeping, maintenance and retention of records in line with record keeping SOP.

  • Analyse metrics, drive conclusions and initiate corrective and preventive actions working with right internal stake holders, brokers, suppliers, forwarders, and Customs authorities.

  • Identify Customs risks areas and develop actionable plans and procedures to mitigate those risks.

  • Support internal and external audit with data & documents.

  • Support/lead/carry out any assigned global initiatives and implementation.

  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.

  • This position uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Customs, Logistics, International Trade, Finance, Legal or related disciplinesfrom an accredited university or college.

  • 10+ years of working experience in customs and/or international trade and logistics in an international business environment.

Desired Characteristics
  • In country Professional Customs Certification or Accreditation

  • Previous management experience

  • Demonstrated Compliance mindset

  • Experience of managing imports operations of EOU/EHTP/STP/IGCR schemes

  • Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers

  • Ability to communicate complex information efficiently based on audience needs.

  • Experience with driving process improvements

  • Self-starter/team player/collaborator

  • Fluent in English - both oral and written

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
