What You’ll Do

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Cisco Legal team. Within the Trade Legal and Compliance team you will work within the Classification, Licensing and Major Transactions team. This team is responsible for compliance with export control regulations globally and across the business. The team partners closely with our Trade Legal Operations and Trade Legal Counsel colleagues to secure timely and relevant authorizations for the business and its acquisitions. We are looking for a curious, creative standout colleague, hungry to dive into a wide variety of hands on work to help drive the business forward. We’re looking for someone who can:


  • Make export classification determinations in the US and across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Prepare and submit classification applications.
  • Engage with the classification authorities where and when necessary.
  • Advise stakeholders on regulatory requirements that pertain to their business.
  • Manage adherence to export compliance policies and procedures in order to assure compliance with dual-use export control laws and regulations globally.

General expectations for this role:


  • Work with product teams to determine appropriate and timely export classification (self-classification, CCATS).
  • Draft and submit strategic and complex classification applications within business deadlines.
  • Maintain export classification attributes in our compliance management system.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory evolutions pertaining to export classification.
  • Work collaboratively and build trusted relationships with team members and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide feedback and front-line experiences to help improve guidelines, processes, and policies.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills with colleagues, clients, and customers; including ability to explain issues and positions.
Your Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in law, international trade, or engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience in global trade compliance in-house or at a law firm.
  • Deep knowledge of US export controls regulations and other local dual use regulations including EAR
  • Export classification knowledge in categories 3, 4 or 5 part 1 and 2.
