The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As an Executive Communications Manager, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy for our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) that amplifies their vision to our stakeholders and drives engagement and meaningful impact around company goals
  • Writing, editing and producing high-quality, engaging content – including presentations, messages to key stakeholders, keynote speeches, social media posts, earnings releases, press releases and more – that are tailored to both internal and external audiences
  • Working with stakeholders across the company to ensure alignment to the CEO and CFO strategies, consistent executive messaging, branding and voice across platforms, and to keep the CEO and CFO informed of relevant communications requests and needs
  • Consulting with external communications team on opportunities to engage with media and at external events
  • Ensuring our CEO and CFO are informed of relevant upcoming media stories about the company
  • Managing an editorial calendar for executive communications, ensuring timely delivery of content and alignment with key stakeholders
  • Building and maintaining a key message repository and preparing the CEO and CFO for internal and external-facing speaking engagements
  • Supporting detailed measurement and analysis of communication effectiveness and providing data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement and communications excellence

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Seven to ten (7-10) years of Communications experience in a Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Corporate Strategy and/or Brand role within a private, public, government or military environment
  • Three (3) years in an executive communications role supporting C-suite executives with speech writing, presentation development and social media

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • CEO executive communications experience
  • Both breadth and depth in communications experience, including employee communications, executive communications, change management communications, and investor relations
  • Project management experience
  • An MBA or a high level of business acumen, with the ability to strategically align communications priorities to enterprise objectives
  • Skills include:
    • Exceptional writing skills, including message development, grammar, punctuation and working knowledge of AP Style
    • Meticulous attention to detail
    • High level of discretion, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential information
    • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex information into easily understandable language
    • Strategic thinking and ability to develop creative solutions
    • Ability to balance multiple priorities and perform in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong executive presence and collaboration skills with the ability to interface directly with senior leaders and a variety of stakeholders
    • Proficiency with PowerPoint and experience creating visually engaging presentations
    • Expertise in other Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Teams
