BASIC QUALIFICATIONS


• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
• Chartership with Engineers Ireland (or similar accredited body)
• 5 years working experience with 3 years of experience in design of mission critical facilities inclusive of working experience with MEP engineering consultancies
• Expert in structural design of steel and concrete structures including industrial or MEP-heavy buildings/facilities. Detailed knowledge of relevant design codes and standards such as EuroCodes, TGD’s, British Standards, etc.
• Expert in the use of structural design and modelling software such as Tekla Structural Designer, Tedds, STAAD Pro, Robot, Revit, AutoCAD
• Expertise in leading structural design including; scheme/concept design, structure/building type selection; create/maintain project documentation before, during and after construction; reviewing and approving structural RFP, bids, designs and documentation;

DESCRIPTION

As a Structural Engineer at AWS, you will lead structural designs for AWS DCs in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects around the world. As a DC Structural Engineer, you will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers, and Designers tasked with solving problems and challenging the status quo. As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance, solve large scale implementation issues, and be responsible for CSA (Civil, Structural and Architectural) design requirements.
Key job responsibilities
• Communicate conceptual designs and create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction;
• Maintenance of Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for structural & civil elements;
• Create, review, and release design RFPs;
• Manage our external design consultants through the design and construction process.
• Coordinate with internal and external Architectural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Cabling design engineers;
• Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
• Manage multiple fast paced projects simultaneously
• Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability;
• Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%
• Develop new concepts through exploration, design, testing and deployment;
• Writing and maintaining structural specifications and Basis of Design documents
• Evaluate the constructability of new technologies, and determine construction methods of data center equipment and facilities;
• Perform and present business case analysis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master degree in Structural and/or Civil Engineering
• IStructE Chartered Engineer
• +5 years of experience in Data Center, Mission Critical or Industrial project design and construction
• Civil and/or Architectural experience
• Engineering experience in different regions, including knowledge of international construction techniques and design codes; e.g. IBC, ASCE, etc.
• Vendor and consultant management skills
