The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Machinist/Grinder, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Read, understand and follow work orders, blueprints & engineering drawings.
- Measure and verify setups and parts by measuring positions, first-run parts and sample work pieces utilizing: comparator, calipers, micrometers, bore gages, height gages, indicators and other measuring equipment needed.
- Perform all department operations consistently at standard productivity and quality levels.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, good personal safety record, report unsafe acts, conditions or equipment, keep current with safety policies.
- Actively wears all personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the department including safety glasses and safety shoes.
- Select tools & select/create work holding for optimum productivity.
- Set-up and operate grinders as needed to machine parts to print specification.
- Required to process simple parts requiring little or no grinding.
- Process parts within specified rate on Manufacturing Work Order.
- Report time and material in manufacturing systems.
- Balance the roll to the documented specifications by operating a balancing machine and drill press.
- Perform one or more of the following tasks: Rotary - Nickel Turn; Rotary - Saw to Uncover; Rotary - Blast and Stone; VIT – Edge Grind; VIT – Lathe Work – Non-Abrasive; VIT – Surface Grind; VIT – Form Grind, Basic and Straight; Infiltrated – Blank Prep; Direct Plate – Coupon I
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or higher
- Minimum one (1) year of machinist experience in private, public, government or military environment and/or Technical School
- Requires taking and scoring Medium or High in the Global Advanced Manufacturing Battery Test (GAMB)
