Reporting to the Manager, the Metrology Engineer would be responsible for the development of test methods and procedures needed to determine the dimensional features of products, validation and production inspections of all products produced from manufacturing and assembly processes.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Work in a Metrology Lab environment and itemize interpreted drawings
  • Utilize knowledge of ISO/ASME Y14.5 GD&T to interpret CAD models, engineering layouts, drawings, and documentation of various levels of components, assemblies, and subassemblies using CAD system (i.e., Solid Works, NX, Creo).
  • Design and prototype inspection fixtures
  • Develop and use measurement methods and instruments to determine the dimension features of products conform to the design features
  • Program and use CMM, Vision systems, other type of scanning equipment
  • Troubleshoot CMM programs and system malfunctions.
  • Verify and justify method application
  • Balance multiple workloads
  • Direct workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product or process quality and reliability.
  • Interact with customers to communicate findings, ask clarification testing and evaluation.
  • Perform inspection and testing of molded components and assemblies for conformance to design and configuration requirements.
  • Utilize inspection measurement tools (i.e., micrometers, calipers, drop indicators, thread gauges, plug gauges, comparators etc.).
  • Optimize inspection methods to expedite inspections and manage equipment capacity.
  • Train colleagues /technicians/inspectorson vision systems, Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM), and CT Scanner operation for parts being ran on production floor.
  • Confirm and document non-conformances meaningfully
  • Compile and analyze measurement data and statistics to assess measurement methods and process capability.
  • Perform MSA
  • Assure data availability and integrity for all quality related data. Consolidate and report quality results.

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor degree or its equivalent in education and experience.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in design, quality or manufacturing environment and experience with measurement programming. Experienced in writing measurement running programs is also good to have .
  • Understanding of basic ASME Y14.5 and/or ISO GPS concepts and rules
  • Experience with manual measurement tools such as dial indicators, calipers etc.
  • Experience with 3D and 2D CAD (i.e., Solid Works, NX, Creo, MBD)
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and typical manufacturing defects
  • Experience with CMM software (i.e. DMIS, PC-DMIS, Calypso, Metrologic, Modus, MicroVU, GOM, Geomagic etc.)
  • Ability to develop custom tools to process data (i.e. Python, JS, Java, SQL)
  • Basic understanding of concepts in statistics and application to measurement uncertainty
  • Understanding of basic MSA concepts
