What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highlymotivated Manufacturing Controls Engineer to join the Body in White line at theMegafactory. The Manufacturing Controls Engineer will be experienced in the AutomationControls field, bringing their exposure to Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC, Fanucrobots, and safety systems. This role requires hands-on involvement on themanufacturing line and emphasizes analytical abilities, organization skills,and attention to detail. As a Controls Engineer you will be responsible forsupporting any lineside troubleshooting, analyzing, and improving currentsystem, and develop and deploy new PLC code to help remove productionbottlenecks.

What You’ll Do
  • With safety first, lead continuous improvement effortsusing data-driven solutions to create a reliable and efficient manufacturingplant
  • Support production ramp-up by troubleshooting mechanicalautomation equipment, PLCs, robots, motion controls, and vision systems
  • Develop and maintain PLCs and HMI software tooptimize operator and maintenance technician experience and ensure high-qualityproduction
  • Contribute to equipment conceptual development,considering product specifications, process control requirements, layoutcomplexity, cost, quality, and lead time
  • Create and approve electrical schematics, optimizeequipment for safety and efficiency, and update HMI systems for complexmachinery
  • Provide guidance as a SME for any PLC logic or robotlogic updates
  • Address equipment issues, troubleshoot PLCs androbot-related production problems, and develop maintenance documentation andtraining materials
  • Drive continuous improvement of automated equipment toenhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost metrics
  • Conduct risk assessments and lead safety evaluations forequipment prior to launch
  • Support 24/7 production operations as needed
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics orComputer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a mechanical/manufacturingcontrols engineer working with automation and electromechanical systems
  • Exposure to automated welding equipment (LincolnElectric) preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in programming industrial equipmentusing IEC 61131-3 languages, particularly structured text and ladder logic
  • Experience with PLCs (Siemens, SICAR protocol) and SafetyPLCs
  • Proficiency in Human Machine Interface (HMI)/SCADAsystems (SIMATIC WinCC (TIA Portal)), or Ignition SCADA)
  • Knowledge of Ethernet communications, script-basedprogramming (Python, Java) preferred, motor drives (SEW EURODRIVE and SiemensG120, S120) and field bus networks
  • Ability to select and integrate circuit protectors,sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, and other components
  • Preferred experience in programming robots (Cartesian,SCARA, and Articulated)
  • Proven troubleshooting skills, root cause analysis, andproblem-solving under tight timing constraints
