This role requires a pragmatic, proactive lawyer with a thorough understanding of Citi’s Operations and Technology business, and in particular of vendor procurement and commercial transactions, combined with a solid conceptual / practical grounding in the laws and regulations of the geographies in which we operate throughout Asia. He/She will need to provide input into strategic decisions, and exercise sound legal judgement to develop proactive, risk-appropriate, and commercially business-oriented solutions.

In this role, you’re expected to:

  • Responsible for providing Citi businesses and functions with legal counsel on all matters pertaining to operations and technology; supporting strategic initiatives and product/service launches, providing subject matter expertise and interpretations of relevant laws, rules, regulations, and industry practices, and advising businessmanagement/leadershipon all types of legal matters related to Citi’s Operations and Technology business, in particular vendor procurement and commercial transactions.
  • Objectively evaluate Operations and Technology business decisions by applying institutional knowledge against industry standard, widely accepted business practices, laws, rules, and regulatory guidelines, escalating as appropriate.
  • Collaborate across internal lines of business and control/support functions to achieve coordinated and efficient outcomes on matters related to Citi’s Operations and Technology business; coordinate closely with legal peers aligned to associated businesses.
  • Participate in planning and development initiatives; contribute to objectives by providing thought leadership using knowledge of industry, laws, and regulations.
  • Proactively identify, evaluate, and contribute to the appropriate management of legal, regulatory, and reputational risk by collaborating with other control functions like Compliance and Risk, following relevant legal developments, participating in internal projects, and performing other related tasks.
  • Manage day-to-day legal activities such as providing commercial legal support, in particular reviewing and advising on a wide range of general commercial contracts (for e.g. MSAs, service agreements, hosting services agreements, licensing agreements, SOWs, Work Orders, NDAs etc), as a subject matter expert in area of responsibility and provide legal advisory services to businesspartners or internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor management of complex legal issues, escalating whennecessary.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:

  • A skilled commercial lawyer and negotiator who can actively work with a wide range of teams and functions in helping them to achieve pragmatic, commercial solutions to a wide range of challenges, while also identifying and addressing key risks given the need to comply with many and often potentially conflicting legal, regulatory and internal policy requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and with initiative on complex transactions, with a focus on applicable Asia Pac legal and regulatory requirements.
  • An enthusiastic team player who can actively work with colleagues in different countries or regions while managing a diverse and significant range of transactional work
  • 15+ years PQE, preferably in practice or in-house at a global or regional bank / financialinstitution or Information Technology company.
  • Substantial experience with general commercial/contractual/transactional work essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant laws, regulations (including but not limited to Outsourcing, Data Privacy, Banking Secrecy, Operational Resilience, Technology Risk Management, Cybersecurity) and practices as well as industry trends that impact the Operations and Technology business of a financial institution essential.
  • Regional (Asia), multi-jurisdictional experience or cross border experience preferred.
  • Experience with complex deals, demonstrated ability to analyze issues and develop legalsolutions.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain trustedrelationships.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational and relationship managementskills
  • Strong time and project management skills - ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Team player and with positive attitude.
  • Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-pacedenvironment.
  • Bar license in good standing to practicelaw.

  • LL.B. (Bachelor of Law) or equivalent
