Geotechnical engineers leverage technical knowledge, engineering principles, and scientific methods to assess the engineering behavior of soils and rocks. They provide the research foundation and design for projects involving complex geological terrain; and use computer software to perform engineering calculations, analysis, and design. Geotechnical engineers work on a variety of projects, ranging from the construction of roads, bridges, and tall buildings to the establishment of foundations for renewable energy projects. These engineers not only report on the geotechnical conditions of the sites where construction is to occur but also offer practical solutions to potential problems. Geotechnical engineers must possess strong analytical, problem solving, communication, and organizational skills, as well as a solid understanding of a variety of materials, such as soil, rock, concrete, asphalt, and geosynthetics. Geotechnical engineers must also be adept at using relevant software, such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, ArcGIS, and STAAD Pro. They must also be knowledgeable of commonly accepted engineering principles, standards, and regulations related to soil and rock mechanics. Geotechnical engineers are employed by engineering firms, the government, and the construction industry. Their work is largely based inside the office but there may be occasional site visits and inspections. Geotechnical engineers must stay current on the changing engineering practices, so professional development and continuing education courses are highly recommended. At Expoint, you will find geotechnical engineering jobs across a variety of industries and disciplines. No matter what type of job you seek, you will find a great selection of exciting positions and employment opportunities ready for you to explore. With Expoint, you can confidently start or continue your career as a geotechnical engineer in no time!
