A Cad Designer is a technology expert who specializes in the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. Working in manufacturing, engineering, product design or architectural firms, they are responsible for creating detailed designs and 3D models of products, components and structural elements.
Cad Designers have a deep knowledge of the tools and techniques required to create 2D and 3D models on the computer. They must be proficient in a variety of software programs such as AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks and Inventor, as well understanding of Mechanical Design Engineering principles. They use these programs to create 3D models of components, assemblies and products and detailed drawings which are used in the production process. In addition, they may be required to create simulations and animations of potential designs.
Beyond technical skills, Cad Designers must have strong problem-solving and communication skills. They are responsible for understanding customer requirements and specifications and creating designs which meet and exceed their expectations.
