What You’ll Do What You’ll Bring
- Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on all electro-mechanical issues pertaining to the Drive Unit Motor Gearbox
- Identify root cause by performing detailed hands-on failure analysis using a wide range of analytical tools and techniques including electrical debugging, X-Ray, microscopic inspection, cross sectioning, thermography, and functional testing
- Design and conduct experiments on drive units to replicate failures observed in the field
- Analyze and interpret field and diagnostic logs/data to identify commonality on trending issues
- Monitor product field performance, identify trending issues and prioritize work based on severity, occurrence, and cost of each failure modes
- Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated (DFMEAs)
- Collaborate with appropriate engineers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to drive resolution to the identified failure causes
- Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent experience
- Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands-on role such as Failure Analysis, Quality, Service in consumer electronics or automotive
- Exceptional problem solving and Failure Analysis, strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data
- Programming Languages & Tools: Python, Minitab, JMP or similar are a strong plus
- For entry level candidates, Co-ops, or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE; Solar vehicle
- The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside

- Apply knowledge of mechanical, electrical engineering and PCBA manufacturing to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production / design / supplier / Firmware
- Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering peers and leadership on improvement priorities and urgency
- Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive actions
- Share Lessons Learned from previous field issues; Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks mitigated (DFMEAs)
- Take part in ongoing optimization of the products and processes (performance, cost, technology)
