Description:
What to Expect

A strong technical background in diagnosing complex electromechanical systems with heavy software content and deployed in safety-critical applications is required. Experience defining and optimizing processes for a large-scale operation is also critical. You will be responsible for contributing directly to the continuous improvement of our driverless products. This engineer must be passionate about the product, a strong critical thinker, and capable of understanding technical system-level architecture and issues.

What You’ll Do
  • Responsible for creating and improving the tools and processes used for diagnosis and repair of Tesla’s driverless vehicles used as robotaxi’s
  • Define the workflow of automated, real-time diagnostics running onboard and offboard the vehicle to direct vehicles to service and inform the necessary repairs
  • Create automated diagnostic scripts to analyze vehicle logs, and define and diagnostic procedures to be used by Tesla service technicians
  • Collaborate with service technical operations to define repair procedures, including creating necessary software routines to increase repair efficiency
  • Conduct analyses to determine cost effective opportunities to rework and remanufacture critical components for re-use within Tesla’s fleet
  • Identify and propose product improvements to hardware and software development teams that will increase reliability and uptime, reduce service cost, and minimize time spent in service
  • Perform diagnostics on field failures both remotely - looking at data logged by the vehicle – and directly in the field with onboard diagnostic tools
  • Coordinate with design and development teams to perform further root cause analysis with component owners where necessary
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Automotive Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science or similar, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in automotive industry, technical operations, or technical support of physical products; experience with autonomous vehicles a plus
  • Experience testing, validating, diagnosing, and/or designing complex electromechanical system with significant embedded software
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle architecture, including CAN; a plus
  • Knowledge of software connected devices, especially vehicles, a plus
  • Experience with Python preferred; experience with C/C++ a plus
  • Experience with data acquisition, analysis, and processing tools, such as SQL, preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Demonstrated experience working hands-on with the products; Formula SAE or experience working on personal cars is a plus

What You’ll Do

Architecture and Design:

  • This intern will support the team with the execution of the design development process from test fit, concept design, management of survey and due diligence with external consultants. They will also support coordination of all technical and business needs required from stakeholders and transform them into a concept drawing based on site-specific conditions. Additionally, interns on this team will support prototype team with prototype updates and block development as needed, as well as support review construction documents and shop drawings.

Structural Engineer:

  • As an intern on this team, you will support the design and construction of a variety of new and renovations to existing industrial, manufacturing, and office facilities in our high-tech facilities across the U.S. You will also work with multidiscipline project teams including Mechanical, Electrical, piping/Plumbing (MEP) Civil and Architectural professionals. You will conduct structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures, along with the creation of justifying structural calculations. This intern will make technical assumptions, think independently to complete assigned work, and draw conclusions based on engineering judgement. Additionally, you will complete field work independently or with the design team and support preparation of design drawings, plans, sections, details, and schedules in Revit.

What You’ll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field

  • Previous internship and project experience is a plus but not required

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and through drawings/sketches

  • For Architecture interns: Working knowledge of US building codes

  • For Architecture interns: Proficient in Revit, & familiar with AutoCAD. Additional software competencies are a plus

  • For Structural interns: Fundamentals of Engineer (FE) Test taken/passed

  • For Structural interns Experience with Revit, Revit Structural, RISA 3D, RAM or ETABs

  • Prepares major purchase orders while following appropriate pricing and scope evaluations.
  • Reviews project plans, P&ID’s, single-line diagrams, and loop diagrams to account for all material and hardware
  • Manages projects according to Tesla specifications, procedures, and policies

What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years working experience in construction management including record of stellar leadership, organization and communication
  • Experience with Tesla Megapack or other BESS installation as well as Medium Voltage electrical installation and testing
  • Ability to travel for up to 100% of the time
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Project, Adobe, Excel, and familiar with various construction administration interfaces.

  • Expedite solutions to design clashes while coordinating with design team for best path forward
  • Responsible for project buy-out including developing bid packages, working with Procurement to issue RFP’s, writing contracts and Scopes of Work, and issuing Work Orders. Conduct weekly review progress meetings with project teams to identify scope gaps, risks, project goals, and recovery plans
  • Track and review contractor invoices. Create, manage, update, and enforce overall project schedule based off project documents. Compare and track baseline from actual and report variances. Familiarity with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project
  • Monitor project costs and expenses, comparing actuals against the budget while also Identifying cost-saving opportunities and suggest value engineering alternatives. Experience in reviewing, generating, and submitting RFI’s and Submittals
  • Experience in reading, interpreting, and implementing Contract Documents and Specifications. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, local authorities, industry standards, and codes. Be able to communicate and coordinate with all project stakeholders from contractors, Design/Engineering, and QA/Commissioning teams
