Description:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Setting up, configuring, documenting, and maintaining GS Lab network and infrastructure systems
  • Setting up, configuring, documenting, and maintaining GS Lab virtual machine environments
  • Create and maintain scripts and tools to automate the configuration and usability of the lab
  • Support the operation of GS Lab’s back-up system
  • Troubleshoot lab and network outages and issues
  • Address lab users request tickets in a timely matter as per the GS Lab's Service Level Agreements
  • Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A working knowledge of virtual machine technology (VMware, ProxMox or KVM)
  • Fluent in various scripting languages for lab automation
  • Good knowledge of underlying web technologies including Linux Systems Administration, Python and Windows systems.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies
  • Ability to work well independently and on a lab team
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, planning and organization skills
  • Understanding of IP networking basics: L2, L3, L4, L7
  • Prior project management experience in an IT or software development setting
  • Experience with any of the following is a plus: knowledge of networking products such as routers, switches (Juniper), firewalls and NAS storage

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in computer/engineering related field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working with Windows and Linux/UNIX systems

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table, as well as in a data center environment
  • Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.
  • Duties may require being on call periodically or working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends). Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, approximately 5% of the time spent traveling.

Our Security as a Service (SaaS) Security Operations Center (SOC) is the epicenter of dynamic security events; clients under siege daily, with new attacks and attack vectors evolving continuously.

You will partner collaboratively with seasoned engineers to keep our customers safe and stop attackers cold, around the clock. As part of a Global SOC team, you will be responsible for managing cloud-based security systems on behalf of F5 clients, providing real time protection, detection, mitigation, and resolution of security events. The SOC DDoS Analyst is a master of identifying DDoS attacks and is a skilled security defender.

What will you do?

  • Take proactive and reactive steps to mitigate Layer 4-7 security threats against F5 clients

  • Interact directly with F5 clients who are under attack via phone, email and/or ticketing systems

  • Provide proactive and real-time guidance to customers on network configuration, security protocols, and defensive security response

  • Document activities taken in incident management systems, knowledge base, or ticketing systems, as required

  • Establish yourself as a trusted security advisor internally and externally

  • Assist F5 clients with onboarding and provisioning

  • Engage and support cross-functional teams

  • Investigate new attacks andvulnerabilities

  • Appropriately manage time and customer issues based on issue severity and business needs

  • Collaborate with Product Management and Development on requirements and product release activities

  • Identify, define, and implement process and procedure improvements

  • Ensures documented processes and procedures are relevant and up to date

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-5 years’ experience in the Information Security or network security field.

  • Ability to excel in a dynamic, challenging, security-oriented operations environment

  • Undaunted by, and quickly capable of, coming up to speed on new and developing technologies

  • Must be able to communicate technical and operational details fluently in English (written and oral)

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Robust troubleshooting and problem-solving ability including analytical thinking and a strong attention to detail

  • Experience with global routing and networking technologies

  • Skilled understanding of HTTP

· Technicalknowledge of, and experience, troubleshooting TCP/IP networks

  • Fundamental Linux skills

  • Knowledge of Layer 7 DDoS attack mitigation

  • Ability to perform log file analysis

  • Ability to develop creative, efficient solutions to complex problems

Skills & abilities you'll be improving:

  • Detailed protocol analysis using tools such as tcpdump, tshark, and Wireshark

  • Packet manipulation and crafting using tools such as hping, scapy, and iptables

  • Traffic generation and replay using tools such as apachebench and tcpreplay

  • Possess a strong drive to continually learn, always asking “Why?”

  • Work well in a customer-event driven environment with little day-to-day oversight

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior Network Security, SOC, or NOC experience

  • B.S. in Information System Security or related degree

  • Background inSecurity IncidentResponse

  • Information Security/Computer Science degree, or equivalent experience

  • Familiarity with a programming or scripting language

  • Fluency in additional languages

  • Experience with F5 hardware and software (Big-IP, TMOS, iRules, iApps, iControl, etc.)

  • Experienced in common enterprise network technologies

Work Environment

  • Duties require the ability to utilize a computer, communicate over the telephone and read digital material

  • Working in an environment where work hours are scheduled shifts in a full-time position

Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Providing Level 2 technical support to resolve hardware and software issues related to F5 products.
  • Maintaining excellent customer communication, including project status, plan-of-actions, and resolution steps.
  • Providing F5 customers and partners with a consistently high-quality support experience.
  • Working with our tier three engineering services team to overcome technical challenges.
  • Building strong working relationships with peers, partnering with engineers, managers, and related F5 departments.
  • Writing and updating solution articles to share technical expertise internally and externally
  • Handling multiple cases and prioritizing tasks based on customer and business needs.
  • Following standards-based processes (as defined in our Quality Management System).

The following experience and skills will help you succeed as a Support Engineer at F5:

  • Customer support experience with enterprise-level corporate customers in production environments.
  • Hands-on technical experience with LAN/WAN operations (e.g., DNS, Open SSL, Cryptography, virtualization, etc.), Network Protocols, UNIX or Linux (e.g., Redhat) operating systems, as well as VMware or equivalent hypervisors and network hardware.
  • Solid grasp of TCP/IP protocols and the OSI model.
  • Understanding packet captures using Wireshark
  • Knowledge of DNS and HTTP protocol in detail.
  • Understating of SSL/TLS handshake
  • Experience of Network Security (e.g., Web Application Security, AAA, VPN, DDoS, Malware, Application Firewalls, etc.).
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently, including technical concepts and terminology.
  • Able to communicate technical information to customers with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Good analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Experience or ability to grow expertise in Public/Private Cloud technologies (Microsoft, AWS, Google), NGINX,Programming/Scripting(JavaScript, Python, BASH, PERL, Node.JS), Containers (OpenStack, Docker, Velcro), Container Orchestration (Kubernetes) and/or Automation (Ansible, Git).
