Description:
As a RF Design Engineer at Apple, you will use your vast background in circuit design and provide PLL design solutions for wireless chips. You will collaborate with platform architects, system group, and digital design group to define the requirements for a PLL lineup based on the product requirements. You will also work with the Apple technology team and silicon foundries on process evaluation/selection for the target device. Design tasks include various analog biasing blocks, oscillators, frequency dividers and local oscillator chains. You will work with system engineering, layout, and chip integration teams to integrate the IP’s and verify the top-level functionality and performance. You also will work with RF test engineers to bring up, characterize and optimize new silicon.
  • Profound experience in RF circuit design techniques.

In the cellular modem development, the RF system is developed, characterised and optimised before it gets integrated into different kind of products. As an RF system validation engineer you have a wide range of responsibility during the complete development cycle. This starts by defining the test scope, planning and developing the tests cases, which are then used to characterise and optimise the RF system. You will own regression tests that monitor the achieved performance during the entire development and productization phase. Your competence and dedication is required to solve very tricky functional and performance failures reported from the product testing and is needed all the way until the lunch of the product. Your collaboration skills will enable you to overcome technical challenges which needs to be resolved by different teams located in various locations across the world.Your role will include but not be limited to the following tasks:• Definition and planning of the test scope, a detailed study and excellent understanding of the system specifications in order to identify the most relevant and challenging system use-cases.• Implementation of tests, requiring equally strong RF, HW and SW competences, usage of the cellular system knowledge to conceive relevant regression campaigns with un-compromised coverage and short execution time.• Maintain the installed quality gates, constantly appending the coverage in order to address all encountered functional or performance spec failures.• Characterisation and optimisation of the downlink system performance, following the defined process of the required automation flow, which will help coping with the multi-dimensional solution space.• Debugging of functional or performance issues, requiring a strong RF expertise with the capability to understand how those RF KPIs can influence the system behaviour.• Track the status and progress of the project execution, by defining metrics with well defined verdicts.• Drive RF related problems to a solution involving and collaborating with all relevant colleagues from different disciplines.   • Work experience in the RF receiver validation and optimisation, complemented with educational background in RF technology.
  • Excellent understanding of analog and digital RF receiver implementations, along with the key performance indicators of an RF receiver.
  • Deep understanding in RF fundamentals & RF measurement techniques.
  • Experience with the handling of innovative RF measurement instruments and their automation.
  • Sound knowledge of cellular 3GPP (2G/3G/4G/5G) RF standards.
  • Excellent Python programming skills are a must, SQL or Matlab knowledge being of advantage.
  • Proven cross-functional collaboration experience involving multiple teams and subject areas.

Enter a multifunctional role as a Design Verification Engineer in our team in Linz, Austria. We are at the center of the IP and full-chip verification effort within a silicon design group responsible for verifying the state-of-the-art Cellular RF SoCs. This position requires someone comfortable to dive into HW design and verification engineering.
You will need a fundamental understanding of HW and SW design as well as the eagerness to do hands-on verification. The cool thing is, once you crack the design verification world, it will potentiate your knowledge of HW/SW systems in the RF world. We will introduce you to assertion-based verification, simulation acceleration, and formal methods. You will learn special verification languages as universal verification methodology (UVM) or formal description languages, like SVA flanked by AI-based approaches. Our team is a very strong cellular hardware design verification team with very good individual communication. You will work in a strong team setup with a lot of interpersonal interaction that will help you to get a very wide understanding of our work as well as the sub-system and system integration into RF modems. You will build metric-driven verification plans from specifications, review them, and refine them to achieve coverage targets. You will define functional verification requirements based on design requirements and architecture and develop UVM-bas+ed highly reusable test benches starting from different components over cluster into SoC levels.
  • Proven experience in taping out SoC systems with embedded processor cores and hands-on verification experience in UVM environments.
  • Strong collaborative work experience with system, design, and firmware teams.
  • Verification and Validation approach as well as outstanding sense and commitment to quality of deliverables
  • A detective skill for finding bugs and weaknesses
  • Having a good view of the definition and design process of a chipHolistically thinking beyond the design verification domain boundaries
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • English language proficiency is required for this position
  • Bachelor or Master or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or Communication Engineering with extensive years of working experience or PhD in a relevant field with proven years of working experience.
