• Work with large scale structured and unstructured data, build and continuously improve cutting edge Machine Learning models for Airbnb product, business and operational use cases.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners including software engineers, product managers, operations and data scientists, identify opportunities for business impact, understand, refine, and prioritize requirements for machine learning models, drive engineering decisions, and quantify impact.

Your Expertise:

• 6 to 10 years of relevant industry experience in applied Machine Learning, including BE/B.tech or PhD in relevant fields
• Strong programming (Scala / Python / Java/ C++ or equivalent) and data engineering skills
• Deep understanding of Machine Learning best practices (eg. training/serving skew minimization, A/B test, feature engineering, feature/model selection), algorithms (eg. gradient boosted trees, neural networks/deep learning, optimization) and domains (eg. natural language processing, computer vision, personalization and recommendation, anomaly detection)
• Experience with 3 or more of these technologies: Tensorflow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Spark, Airflow (or equivalent), Kafka (or equivalent), data warehouse (eg. Hive)
• Industry experience building end-to-end Machine Learning infrastructure and/or building and productionizing Machine Learning models

This role requires heavy cross-collaboration with teams across other Platform organizations (Payments, Finance, Partnership) and functions (Product Management, Operations, SOX) to inform, validate, track and influence the implementation and maintenance of the payments platform. This team is currently growing, and the scope includes opportunities to build deeper infrastructural services to provide a platform with which we can easily fulfill business requirements, and offer payment services to people anywhere in the world in a compliant, reliable and cost-effective manner.

• Setting and communicating strategy and direction of the team to evolve and maintain current payment systems.

• Experience architecting, building, and maintaining highly available services in a large service-oriented architecture (SOA).
• Familiarity with patterns, libraries and frameworks for building and testing services, and service-to-service communication.

As part of the Trust Engineering team, you will be in charge of designing large-scale systems to detect and mitigate fraud, abuse, and safety risks across our platform. You will be deeply involved in building highly available and real-time risk detection services in close collaboration with product, data science, and operations teams to understand ever-evolving attack vectors. You’ll also work closely with other Trust engineers—whether focused on defense or platform—to build tools and frameworks that make our defenses more adaptive, efficient, and resilient.

Responsibilities:

• This role will partner with key stakeholders in HR - Total Rewards, Recruiting, Talent Management, HR Business Partners, HR Operations, and partners in IT, as we transform the way Airbnb’s global workforce is managed and the technology that enables it
