As an Associate in the Direct Custody and Clearance team (DCC), you will be responsible for processing Equity, Fixed Income and Unlisted security settlement activity, ensuring strong controls and fails & break resolution, while also working under market deadlines. You will be part of the DCC Settlements team who is responsible for the processing and settlement for Australian assets held in custody on behalf of our clients. Your new team is responsible to act off client instructions and arrange for the settlement of Equity and Fixed Income trades and deal directly with the settlement exchanges, Clearing House Electronic Subregister System (CHESS) and Austraclear, or Share Registries to settle\register transactions in and out of the JP Morgan custody.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively use BaNCS/CHESS/Austraclear to settle trades adhering to market cut-offs
  • Address settlement discrepancies/issues and leverage escalation channels promptly
  • Investigate and resolve cash & stock reconciliation issues
  • Be aware of Operational Risk and follow control framework designed to minimize errors, risks, and losses
  • Follow through queries and issues from clients, market participants and internal teams
  • Identify and escalate technical issues and follow through until resolution
  • Familiarity with custody operations systems including Bancs, SecuritEase/CHESS, Exigo/Austraclear and SWIFT
  • Possesses financial markets product knowledge and understanding of the transaction lifecycle in Custody specializing in listed and unlisted securities
  • Exposure in developing operational risk control procedures and monitoring
  • Professional communication skills – to be able to express information and ideas clearly and accurately
  • Contribute to projects and new initiatives to bring efficiencies into Business as Usual (BAU) functions

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Minimum of 3-5 years custody and settlements experience in the banking or financial services industry with working knowledge of the Australian market
  • Familiarity with custody operations systems including Bancs, SecuritEase/CHESS, Exigo/Austraclear and SWIFT
  • Possesses financial markets product knowledge and understanding of the transaction lifecycle in Custody specializing in listed and unlisted securities
  • Exposure in developing operational risk control procedures and monitoring
  • Professional communication skills – to be able to express information and ideas clearly and accurately

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with CHESS and Austraclear highly preferred
  • Strong risk and control mindset, with demonstrable ability to effectively prioritize workloads and work to critical deadlines
  • Self-starter with experience and ability to review and implement process improvements
  • Group/team focus, assist others where required to ensure tasks completed by cut offs
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively by meeting tight deadlines and maintaining accuracy
