Intern – R&D Engineer – San Diego, CA – Summer 2025

Are you interested in an Internship opportunity with Philips? We welcome individuals who are currently pursuing an undergraduate (BS) and/or graduate (MS) degree to participate in 3-6 month paid intern opportunities at our site in San Diego. Through this role you will gain meaningful, hands-on experience working for a HealthTech company.

Our IGT-D Coronary R&D Advanced Development team is looking for an intern to support the advancement of an AD project related to a next-gen CV IVUS project by developing test fixtures and conducting testing.In this role, you will help develop innovative technologies and solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of coronary diseases.
Your role:

  • Assist in IVUS catheter testing and process development under the guidance of Senior Engineers. Activities may include the following:
  • Developing fixtures/equipment to aid in the manufacturing or testing of devices
  • Fabricating and testing prototypes
  • Developing test procedures, conducting testing, and analyzing data
  • Generating engineering models and technical drawings
  • Generating technical documents (e.g. protocols, reports, drawings)
  • Performing other R&D related duties, as requested.


You're the right fit if:

  • You are enrolled and completed your third year in a degreed undergraduate engineering program (e.g. Bio/Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering) with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Completed coursework/projects/labwork involving engineering design and testing;
  • Experience with SolidWorks or other modeling applications preferred;
  • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and machining preferred (e.g. lathe, mil, CNC, etc.);
  • Experience with data acquisition systems/software preferred (e.g. LabView, etc);
  • Competency with Microsoft Windows®, Office, Excel, Word, Powerpoint;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

The hourly pay range for this position is $28.00 to $31.00, plus overtime eligible. The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors including, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
