You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.Your tasks include conceiving, initiating and leading projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation and implementation. You will achieve this by breaking down complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions. This will be achieved by working with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges as well as collaborating with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures and countries. You will escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.
Part of the role will also include the review and approval of critical equipment submittals including vendor Witness Tests, provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE’s), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans. You will also be expected to maintain and host technical electrical forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of datacenter electrical systems.
Key job responsibilities
Under the direction of an engineering manager, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the following:
• Conceives initiates and leads projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation and implementation.
• Decompose complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions.
• Work with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges.
• Collaborate with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures and countries.
• Escalate issues as required and communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.
• Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, white papers, wiring schematics and diagrams, and reports.
• Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Electrical Basis of Design (BoD) with constant auditing.
• Drive standardization in the data center electrical designs.
• Development of strategic solutions, which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.
• Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions.
• Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during innovation and research and development projects.
• Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment.
• Review and approval of critical equipment submittals including vendor Witness Tests.
• Provide technical support on global Large Scale Events (LSE’s), including participation on deep dives, investigations and recommendations on mitigation plans.
• Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
• Maintain and host technical electrical forums to provide a collaborative environment for development of datacenter electrical systems.
• Provide support and mentorship for the whole of the Data Center Engineering community.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in an electrical engineering.
• Cumulative 5+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.
• Excellent understanding of applicable regional electrical code (NEC, CEC, ETCI, NF C, etc…).
• In depth understanding of critical data center electrical equipment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Cumulative 4+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design
.• 3+ years of experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design.
• Familiarity with medium voltage distribution systems design.
• Detailed understanding of uninterruptable power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, and automatic/static transfer switches.
