As a Senior Manager, Federal Government Affairs , you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Working with GA leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive government affairs strategy that aligns with the company’s goals and objectives.
- Monitoring legislative developments and regulations and providing analysis to the broader 3M organization.
- Leading advocacy efforts by meeting with industry associations, lawmakers and federal agencies.
- Taking a lead role in helping to manage, grow and leverage the 3M PAC.
- Serving as an advisor on emerging public policy issues and help with process improvements to improve the GA operation in DC.
- Working with internal departments to develop positions on public policy issues including collaborating with the communications team to develop messaging and strategies.
- Building relationships and engaging with industry associations and coalitions.
- Acting as a liaison between the company and various other external stakeholders.
- Preparing government relations reports, presentations, analysis and strategic plans.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
- Eight (8) years of combined experience working as a Capitol Hill staffer, federal employee in a government department or agency, contract lobbyist, corporate lobbyist, and/or association lobbyist in a private, public, government, or military environment.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience working on issues critical to the company, including but not limited to, environmental policy, tax, trade, and/or labor policy.
- Strong understanding of the legislative, regulatory, and political process (experience working with PACs is a plus).
- Strong bipartisan relationships in DC on Capitol Hill and within agencies and associations.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience working within agencies, associations, congressional offices, or committees where the issues directly impact 3M.
