Your key responsibilities

As an Executive within the FS V&DM team, you will produce high quality valuation analyses and insightful valuation reports for a wide variety of insurance and/or banking clients, ranging from global corporations to fast growth InsureTech / FinTech businesses, as well as central banks and regulators. Typical projects include the valuations of business segments and private companies, financial instruments including debt instruments, asset portfolios, intangible assets, incentive shares, and structured derivatives. You will over time develop a deep understanding of the strategic, commercial, technological and regulatory issues faced by our clients.

Skills and attributes for success

We require highly motivated candidates with strong numerical skills / technical knowledge, project management skills and a demonstrable interest and experience in valuation and financial services, as well as a commercial mindset, who are logical thinkers and have excellent attention to detail. We would welcome candidates with the following attributes:

  • Over two years of experience in a professional services firm, investment bank, private equity, consultancy, corporate finance group or corporate development role, with demonstrable valuation experience.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of core valuation methodologies such as Discounted Cash Flow analysis, Dividend Discount Models, and the use of valuation multiples from comparable companies and transactions.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of corporate finance, and familiarity with illiquid equity and debt / fixed income instruments issued by companies.
  • Experience of serving clients in the insurance and banking sectors, with an appreciation of the key issues faced by our clients and a detailed understanding of how these sectors work, including the impacts of regulatory capital requirements.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, or another highly numerate science.
  • Strong quantitative and Excel skills, preferably within a valuation context.
  • Ability to play a key role in projects, including excellent verbal and written communication with clients and key stakeholders, model building and preparing deliverables under demanding timelines.
  • Further ability to balance multiple projects, prioritise workload and self-review work, with strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player with experience working in a high performing team.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • CFA / ACA / ACCA / FMVA or similar financial qualification.
  • Understanding of IFRS 17 / IFRS 9 / IFRS 13 and other relevant accounting standards relating to the measurement of insurance contracts, financial instruments and derivatives.
  • Knowledge of VBA or other programming languages, including Python, would be an advantage.
