In this role, you’re expected to:

  • Be responsible for legal support activities related to legal operations, litigation/discovery/settlements or negotiation and contract administration
  • Manage the execution, review, processing and tracking of legal documentation and records, execute transactions and complete varied work requests from multiple sources that may be complex in character and have tight deadlines
  • Participate in legal programs and projects to achieve coordinated and efficient process improvements and legal support solutions; liaise with other control/functional businesses in support of initiatives
  • Interact with senior leaders, internal and external peers to gather information and work closely with the team’s management to determine legal solutions
  • Continuously stay informed of regulatory changes, new regulations, internal policy changes and developments in the law
  • Conduct independent research, investigations and analysis, applying institutional knowledge and knowledge of laws, rules and regulations, to support in the identification of legal solutions situations or to formulate an approach or strategy
  • Apply in-depth understanding of how associated risks differ depending on product and documentation envisaged in relevant jurisdiction(s) and provide advice to the Risk function and business partners accordingly
  • Review Banking, Consumer Protection and other financial services Laws, Rules and Regulations (LRRs), principally in Citi’s Japan Asia North and Asia South clusters and prepare clear “plain English” summaries for inclusion in Citi’s Global Financial Regulations Inventory (FRI), which serves as a foundational resource for Citi’s enterprise-wide compliance risk management framework. For certain LRRs with broader impact on Citi, FRI content will include summaries of all legal obligations applicable to Citi based on its business model.
  • Develop expertise in applicable standards for FRI content
  • Participate in global projects to improve and enhance FRI content.
  • Interact with Citi colleague on various projects to promote understanding and awareness of FRI content.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years of relevant industry experience, preferably with some experience working in an in-house legal role within financial services
  • Ability to manage complex documentation with organization and detail
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and project management skills, as well as the ability to interact and communicate effectively with Senior management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
  • In-depth knowledge of legal customs and practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry and financial services laws and regulation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to review and understand complex financial services regulations and summarize key requirements
  • Ability to comprehend Chinese language LRRs is a plus

Education:

  • Bachelors/University degree
