By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to oversee multiple multi-discipline teams of employees, including: Architectural, MEP, Structural, Civil and others as needed by the project or program. The position requires a level of technical expertise to successfully manage large complex and small programs and projects, both renovation and new construction. Project scope may include rail and rail buildings, transit and transit buildings, operational, administrative, and training facilities, maintenance and industrial facilities, and mission critical facilities, among others.

For specific projects or tasks, you may act as the company’s point of contact for design coordination and construction administration. You will oversee design deliverables for design-bid-build projects (full plans, specifications, design analysis, estimates), engineering studies, feasibility reports and other engineering requirements. Multitasking ability is key in this role as you will oversee multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they’re completed on time, within construction budget and in accordance with agreed scope.

As a Project Manager, you’ll provide effective, skilled project management by assessing project requirements to help reduce the costs of delivering projects and adding value to Jacobs and the client by applying demonstrated project management techniques. You’ll be responsible for construction phase services as required by the scope of work. This typically includes services performed in office environment such as coordinating Jacobs’ responses to RFIs, shop drawing reviews, and construction modification documents.

We’ll look to you to lead the design team in the development of project documents by providing overall direction to the team, and coordinate with external project stakeholders, internal team members and subcontractors. Additionally, you’ll functions as a task leader for assigned projects serving as the primary point of contact with the client responsible for project deliverables that are compliant with the Scope of Work and all project requirements.

You will be asked to ensure the overall quality of the project documents and adherence with Jacobs’ Quality Program by providing ideas and guidance to the team aimed at improving the effectiveness of their role and project delivery in general.

As a key member of the team, you’ll be responsible for initial development of the project fee proposal and coordination with discipline directors and design leads for specific budget input and plays a prominent role in fee negotiations with the client. We’ll look to you to facilitate the creation of communication plans, ensuring that appropriate information is exchanged among key stakeholders, and conducts status review meetings among project team members and clients through project implementation.

Your leadership skills will be utilized by planning, organizing and staffing key design positions for the project working with Jacobs’ Amtrak leadership. You will also mentor and train team members in technical aspects and ultimately in project management methods, procedures and activities.

Here's what you'll need

• Bachelor’s in Engineering, Architecture, or Architectural Engineering.

• Experience as a Project Manager or Project Architect with industrial building types including all phases of design and construction administration.

• Excellent working knowledge of design and construction, building systems/components and technology, rail design criteria, Federal Design Criteria (e.g., Uniform Facilities Criteria), contract management, project delivery methods, team- building and client relationship building.

• Experience in rail or transit projects.

• Local presence in the Chicago area and ability to visit the office generally at least once per week.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

• Professional Registration (P.E.), Structural Engineering license (SE) or Registered Architect (RA), PMI Certification will be considered.

• Master’s Degree in Engineering or Architecture

• Amtrak, CTA or other heavy rail experience
