What You’ll Do
  • Serve as a member of the Vehicle Engineering Team to support Closures System development for the Tesla vehicle product lines. Closures commodities consists of CIW (structural panel development of doors, hood and liftgates), Mechanisms/Electro mechanisms, Dynamic Sealing and Glazing
  • Conceptualize, design, engineer, release, and launch closures components. Develop and execute closure system requirements for one or more of the aforementioned closure commodities
  • Achieve innovation-driven closure system targets for appearance, function, quality, cost and weight. Establish closure system architecture and functional feasibility
  • Support manufacturing processes and material selections to achieve world class execution of automotive exterior craftsmanship and fit and finish using an analytical and physical assessment
  • Manage and collaborate with key suppliers (both internal and external) to support overall vehicle development milestones and prototype/ production build events and initiate regional changes for closures products.
  • Evaluate competing design approaches using any one of the various development tools (DFMEA, fault tree, decision matrices, etc.)
  • Act as technical consultant to support Global Supply Managers on making strategic sourcing decisions and driving suppliers to deliver high quality products on tight timelines
What You’ll Bring
  • Education background in mechanical engineering, or the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability
  • A self-starter with can-do attitude and passion to maintain a high level of work ethics and integrity
  • Inquisitive about new technologies and always thinks out of box, but willing to get hands dirty to resolve engineering issues
  • Knowledge in engineering tools including DFSS, DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, tolerance stack up, etc.
  • Competent in quality control tools including Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, SPC, etc.
  • Base knowledge in stamping, hemming, welding, painting, GA, injection molding, extrusion processes and tooling, Catia V5/3DX or equivalent CAD software
  • Good understanding of mechanics of materials, lightweight materials, polymer/composite materials and material processing
  • The following knowledge and experience is considered a plus: Prototype methods (including SLA, SLS, 3D printing), CMM, blue light scanning, 3D scanning, vehicle and component level testing including homologation testing and experience with a vehicle development process from concept to launch
  • Fluent in the English language is required
