Key job responsibilities
You will build the architectural vision and lay down the strategy of the Query Processing and Optimization area for the Aurora PostgreSQL engine while working across the broader organization and with other Principal and Sr Principal Engineers to get it adopted. You will help drive the evaluation, design, development and enhancement of an already successful service and align the organizational roadmap to deliver on the strategy. In the Principal Engineer role you will be able to influence the organization’s priorities, mentor senior engineers, collaborate with other Principal Engineers and solve complex business and technical challenges with “future proof” solutions, rolling up your sleeves when necessary to get things done.As an AWS Principal Engineer you’ll be expected to:
• Serve as a technical lead on our most demanding, cross-functional projects.
• Ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems.
• Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions.
• Fully and completely understand system interdependencies and limitations.
• Possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices.
• Leverage knowledge of internal and industry prior art in design decisions.
• Effectively research and benchmark Amazon technology against other competing systems in the industry.
• Contribute intellectual property through patents
• Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.
• Exert technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms
- 13+ years of software engineering with a proven track record of leading large-scale projects experience
