Description and Requirements
The Senior Product Developer is a contributing member of the Development team responsible for designing, developing, and debugging of software products. The role requires a good knowledge of product domain, the software development life cycle and the process involved in product development and maintenance. Uses professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
This position will be a primary contact with IBM Labs and may be required to work at times to connect with IBM personnel in California.
Technical Requirements:
  • Db2 z/OS expertise include issue diagnosis, system configuration, ZPARMS
  • Data sharing on z/OS
  • z/OS Assembler
Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Evaluate changes from IBM Db2, explain them to teams, determine which products are impacted, insert work to team pipeline.
  • Diagnose internal Db2 system problems, identify root cause, improve processes based on root cause.
  • Report tickets to IBM after isolating case.
  • General repeatable training on Db2 concepts
  • Create special Db2 systems when needed for specific team needs.
  • Investigate customer issues across multiple products when Db2 failures are involved.
  • Be the face of BMC on customer calls potentially with IBM or other vendors to explain the technical details of high impact issues.
  • Defines the functional specification of program modules ensuring functionality, quality and ease of maintainability.
  • Mentors earlier career staff.
  • Accurately estimates the size and scope of the development effort as measured by the product delivery schedule.
  • Develops and tests product code according to BMC quality standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of product environments and applicable software technologies.
  • Provides complete documentation in the form of commented code, problem status information, and design documents.
  • Performs thorough problem analysis that results in resolution of product-related problems according to BMC support standards.
  • Completes code and other deliverables on schedule.
  • Performs thorough unit testing; supports systems and integration testing as required to provide a quality product.
  • Provides input to the Technical Writers for all product documentation.
  • Works with other teams in Development as well as other areas such as Quality Assurance and Support to deliver quality products and customer satisfaction.
  • Participates in customer interactions when required.
  • Support cross-functional teams in customer specific escalations.
  • Manage expectations through clear issue management.
  • Conducts and participates in team code (and other artifact) reviews.

  • Self-starter able to work independently to provide quality solutions with little oversight.
  • Able to manage a mixed workload of multiple ongoing tasks including new function development and product maintenance.
