Under supervision, performs a variety of tasks associated with learning the associated responsibilities of a certified water/wastewater operator – in preparation for receiving an entry-level certification.
Essential Functions:
- Under the direction of a certified Water or Wastewater Operator, performs tasks associated with the operations of a water or wastewater facility.
- Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent
- Reports operating problems to lead operator or supervisor and performs directed corrective action during assigned shift
- Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels
- Observes and reports abnormalities to Certified Operator
- After training, operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control
- After training, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
- Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings
- Learns and gains skill in a variety of equipment maintenance, servicing, and operating tasks.
- Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions
- Takes and records readings produced from the operation of equipment
- Learns to take samples and perform routine process laboratory tests and analysis under supervision of certified operator
- Daily and punctual attendance in the office and/or job site
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
- This position may be required to be available on an on-call basis for emergencies
- Travel between work locations is required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned

- Position reports to: Supervisor(s), Project Director, Project Manager
- Level of supervision the employee receives
- Works under close supervision, employee’s work product is subject to close, continuous
inspection.
- Employee receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma / GED
Valid Driver’s License
New Mexico Water supply 1 Water license (Required within 18 months of conversion)
