APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Design and develop parts and modules for Apple Watch. Ideate, design, prototype, test, and organize parts and modules for Apple Watch product. Develop product functionality and requirements. Perform research for prototypes. Work with vendors to problem solve manufacturing and logistical issues. Solve technical problems using mathematical and statistical analysis, 3D CAD design of parts. Draft prototype drawings and develop technical requirements. Test product features and perform root cause analysis. Iterate on design concepts in 3D CAD with other engineers, and create presentations to discuss the design advantages and limitations. Attend technical meetings and contribute ideas for improvement on technical aspects of product design, including manufacturing methods, mechanical requirements, electrical requirements, optical requirements, thermal requirements, magnetic requirements, and requirements for final appearance. Create test plans for validation and understanding the technical aspects of a design, including limitations, reliability, low-likelihood scenarios, and expected high occurrence stresses. Build reporting with a diverse team of technical experts that bring perspectives and ideas that are helpful in designing Apple products. International Travel Required 10%. 40 hours/week. At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 - $214,500/yr and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related field.
  • Education and/or experience with each of the following skills is required:
  • Utilizing 3D CAD for the detailed design of hardware system assemblies used for testing and production
  • Technical drafting and drawing using 3D CAD Software
  • Creating and communicating hardware design requirements to vendors
  • Utilizing static physics concepts and equations for developing technical requirements for hardware system design and testing
  • Design of Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Utilizing thermodynamics to develop manufacturing assembly processes
  • Utilizing dynamic physics to understand hardware reliability requirements and testing for real world use cases related to product design
  • Using presentation design software to communicate hardware system design problems and proposals
  • Applying design practices to consolidate requests and develop design proposals
  • Applying engineering practices for system or product design, including an understanding of safety factors and tolerance stacks
  • Utilizing Gaant charts resource planning and creating design validation plans
