Outbound Communications seek a Sr Manager of Applied Science with strong leadership and communication skills to join our team and head the combined Science and Analytics team. You will lead a team of machine learning scientists, data scientists, and BIEs to help us discover and define problems, and apply quantitative solutions to problems to impact marketing at Amazon. You will define new metrics to impact the efficiency and effectiveness of our channel and our programs. You will be working with cutting edge technologies that enable big data and parallelizable algorithms. You will play an active role in translating business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables. You will work closely with product management and the software development team to put solutions into production.
Key job responsibilities
- Set the science and analytics vision for Outbound Communications
- Communicate scientific solution and insights effectively to a non-scientific audience
- Develop metrics and mechanisms to audit channel and program quality and develop best practices

- 5+ years of exceptional hands-on experience in building quantitative solutions.
- 5+ years of experience managing teams of machine learning, data science professionals and/or engineers
- 3+ years of experience developing algorithms or building machine learning models for business applications.
- PhD or MS degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics or related quantitative / engineering field.
- Excellent communication skills and management and leadership experience in applying quantitative solutions. Having an ability to explain analytical concepts to a non-technical audience is a must.
- Prototyping skills (e.g., R/Python)

- 5+ years of experience building machine learning and analytic applications.
- Experience in reinforcement learning and natural language processing
- PhD and 7+ years of relevant industry or academic research experience
- Advanced knowledge of big data analytics technology
- Skills with Java, C++ (or other high-level programming language) as well as R, MATLAB, Python (or similar scripting language)
