Your Role and Responsibilities- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Layer 2 network switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Handle VLAN configurations, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Link Aggregation (LACP), and other L2 protocols.
- Support network topology design and optimize network infrastructure for performance and scalability.
- Diagnose and resolve L2 network issues, including loop detection, broadcast storms, and MAC table issues.
- Monitor network performance using tools like Wireshark, SolarWinds, and PRTG.
- Provide Level 2 support for escalated network incidents and work closely with L3 engineers on complex issues.
- Apply patches, upgrades, and configuration changes to network devices as needed.
- Perform regular audits of network devices and settings.
- Collaborate with network architects to ensure design consistency and performance optimization.
- Maintain accurate documentation of network diagrams, configurations, and processes.
- Prepare incident reports and provide recommendations for continuous improvement in network management.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- 3-5 years of experience working in a network engineer or equivalent role.
- Hands-on experience with L2 switching and routing protocols.
- Expertise in Layer 2 technologies (e.g., Ethernet, VLANs, STP, LACP).
- Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices from major vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, HP, Aruba).
- Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, Nagios, SolarWinds).
- Basic understanding of Layer 3 protocols like OSPF, BGP is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Certifications like Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIP, or equivalent.
- Experience in a data centre or service provider environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
