About the role

The Senior Tax Economist will play a critical role in the expanding Wealth Investment Solutions portfolio management organization and their responsibilities will be multi-faceted.

The Senior Tax Economist will also be responsible for creating content, showcasing expertise in different forums, including authoring blogs, white papers, participating in client conferences, webinars and other avenues. Topics may include potential tax policy changes and implications, wealth transfer and other trust and estate topics.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with clients in structuring wealth and estate planning strategies
  • Technical expertise in US tax legislation and tax implications of investment portfolios, estate planning entities, philanthropic entities, including impact of the Alternative Minimum Tax
  • Deep interest in the financial markets and good investment sense/commercial instinct
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a team oriented environment
  • Resourceful, self-starter, attentive to detail and capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Extensive experience of presenting to internal and external audiences
  • A minimum of ten years of experience as an accountant, attorney or wealth professional
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; CPA and/or JD highly preferred
  • Securities Industry Essentials (SIE), Series 7 & Series 63 exams (must be obtained within first 3 months of employment)
  • Willingness and desire to travel

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor changing tax regulations that could impact investment design and performance and analyze potential impact to strategies
  • Work with portfolio management teams to ensure appropriate application of tax considerations in investment strategies
  • Liaise with the GS corporate tax team and external tax counsel on behalf of business needs
  • Understanding and informing portfolio managers of cross-product tax implications across different asset classes and strategies
  • Providing tax and estate planning expertise during investment product design and research
  • Contribute to design of tax-related digital tools (e.g. new administration tax calculator)
  • Identifying commercial solutions and creating custom analytics and investment proposals to win business
  • Client resource for how investment products impact tax and estate planning and the suitability of different investment strategies
  • Drive tax oriented, thought leadership commentary including blogs, whitepapers, articles, webinars and conferences
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Financial Advisors and investors


The expected base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $125000-$290000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
