What to Expect

You will be responsible for driving innovation and first principles mindset, driving projects to completion, and supporting Infrastructure Development for Sales, Service, Delivery, Collision, and Warehousing projects across North & South America. The ideal candidate thrives from working in a technically complex and fast-moving environment and is willing to challenge the status quo.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop & create standard basis of design for Fire Protection scope of work. Develop process improvements / workflows / templates to increase design productivity and quality of deliverables with outsourced Fire Engineers
  • Work with Fire Protection Engineers to develop AM&M (Alternate Means & Methods), Risk Mitigation Plans (RMP) and other detailed studies to submit to local AHJ to help with performance-based design criteria to meet intent of code
  • Code Planning / Life Safety design review, including building code, life safety, fire sprinkler, fire alarm, paint spray applications, high-piled storage plans. Perform hazardous material analysis for code compliance purposes
  • Build out external partner resources to execute the design. Collaborate with them and with internal teams to see projects through to execution
  • Advocate and educate AHJ’s on Tesla’s behalf – specifically around lithium-ion technology, safety standards, etc. Educate internal Tesla teams on fire life safety requirements, including inspection, testing, and maintenance
  • Support with fire inspections where necessary on the project level. Support with management for fire life safety consultants and vendors, including scheduling of surveys, deliverables, coordination, and communications. Support review of construction documents – driving consistency of standards, challenging assumptions, and driving best practices for design
  • Maintain project drawing files, tracking and recordkeeping, applying lessons learned to future projects and formalizing standards to ensure repeatability
What You’ll Bring
  • ABET accredited 4 year Engineering Degree or equivalent degree in Engineering or Design or equivalent experience
  • Ability to learn rapidly
  • Revit experience
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple projects with competing priorities and different timescales
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information in a concise way to a non-technical audience, and vice versa
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments in a fast-paced environment, ability to quickly learn new design and calculation software, strong communication skills required, ability to speak in a public forum, strong problem-solving skills, ability to travel up to 50%
  • Working knowledge of IFC, CFC, NFPA, OSHA and various state agency regulations, international regulations a plus
