Global Surveillance Strategy Team Responsibilities
- Take ownership of and rationalize the surveillance alerts in our 2nd LOD function in order to improve the quality of alerts using expertise of product-specific market microstructure and supporting data.
- Improve the Surveillance program by identifying critical order / quote attributes that may impact the quality of alerts, including timestamps and market data.
- Lead periodic parameter reviews to analyze the quality and quantity of existing surveillance alerts and make recommendations for changes.
- Lead “effectiveness reviews” of surveillance alerts to take deep dives into the surveillance alert logic and make recommendations for improvements.
- Identify improvements in venue and product coverage by comparing transactional data from trading systems to surveillance alert generation.
- Serve as technical liaison for GBAM Compliance and Operational Risk groups regionally on interactions with internal technology teams and external vendors on all product-specific surveillance matters.
- Participate with the front-office in trading venue onboarding in order to ensure that surveillance of the new trading activity will work as needed.
- Participate in front-office market discussions to stay informed about new order types and changes to the market microstructure.
- Manage the Surveillance Technology Book-of-Work.
Global Surveillance Strategy Specialist – Role Description
- Assist in the execution of regular and fundamental reviews of the firm’s trade surveillance processes and procedures and implement changes where necessary;
- Help to drive the firm’s trade surveillance change program;
- Assist with the monitoring of current technology developments in trade surveillance and promote best practice initiatives;
- Assist with monitoring potential market abuse cases to provide advice and guidance on best practice as well as highlighting issues for policy or procedural change;

- Support periodic parameter reviews to analyze the quality and quantity of existing surveillance alerts and make recommendations for changes.
- Assist in transactional data analysis from trading systems and other data sources to verify completeness surveillance data set;
- Support team efforts to provide technical liaison for GBAM Compliance and Operational Risk groups regionally on interactions with internal technology teams and external vendors on all product-specific surveillance matters.
- Participate with the front-office in trading venue onboarding in order to ensure that surveillance of the new trading activity will work as needed.

Core Requirements
- Knowledge of general Market Misconduct behaviors in primary or secondary trading;
- Trading domain knowledge, including mechanics of exchange traded instruments and associated market microstructure;
- Knowledge and/or experience on a trading desk to include order placement and routing, market data, and the full trade life cycle, including clearance and settlement;
- Technical experience and understanding of data attributes associated with orders and fills (i.e. FIX protocol, binary protocols, etc.).
- Knowledge of SMARTS, Actimize and alternative surveillance systems (e.g. KX, TradingHub, OneTick or similar) – to include model logic and detailed data requirements;
- Programming and data management skills in order to:
- Carry out detailed analysis of model logic, calibration of parameters and ad-hoc data projects;
- Analyze raw data sets, drawing conclusions & developing (high level and detailed) recommendations;
- Basic understanding of statistics that includes mean, median, mode, standard deviation, etc.;
- Good MS office skills (Excel and PowerPoint);
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure requirements are properly communicated to internal and external technology partners;
- Ability to interact with senior stakeholders and communicate efficiently and confidently;
- High aptitude, proactive and entrepreneurial skills to ensure a complete understanding of What, Why and How any problem should be solved, and propose solutions;
- Strong team player who works well with others and supports a culture of learning, knowledge sharing and teaching.
