As an Investment Risk Executive Director within WM Investment Risk & Analytics you will work closely with other Risk Management colleagues, the Business, and key control functions including Legal, Compliance, Audit, and Control Management, to provide valuable assessment and feedback regarding investment, fiduciary, suitability, and counterparty issues and emergent risks.

Job responsibilities

  • Ownership of investment, fiduciary, and suitability risk management responsibilities for International Private Bank and Nutmeg Online Investment Management in accordance with local regulations, ensuring that risks can be properly identified, measured, managed, and monitored on an ongoing basis
  • Partner with counterparty risk lead for risk management responsibilities for counterparty risk oversight for Nutmeg Online Investment Management
  • Engage in regular dialogue with the business; provide informed review to various business teams including portfolio managers
  • Identify risk issues in the business and perform reviews into such areas to identify gaps and recommend risk mitigation strategies
  • Establishment and execution of risk governance processes including standards and procedures, internal risk limits administration, escalation, and resolution
  • Represent Risk in committees/forums and review key risk issues, as appropriate
  • Represent Risk Management in regulatory exams and internal audits
  • Mentor and manage junior colleagues

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Education in finance, business or economics
  • Substantial experience in financial risk management with experience in portfolio risk management, investing approaches, fiduciary and suitability risk measures, methodologies and their applications
  • Ability to review risks in investment portfolios including market and liquidity risk metrics, stress tests, sensitivities, and draw inferences from these about response to market events, emergent risks or portfolio performance
  • Familiarity with European and UK financial regulations, especially investment management regulations
  • Strong partnership skills; experience working on cross-functional teams
  • Ability to persuade business partners while working constructively to achieve a common goal
  • Proficiency in communicating with senior management and in sensitive situations
  • Track record of crafting and delivering persuasive, data-intensive presentations and views
  • Control mentality – naturally skeptical, with an ability to anticipate unforeseen consequences
  • Ownership mindset – takes personal responsibility for outcomes; sees beyond their own domain, is inquisitive
  • Self-starter with ability to initiate, plan, execute and manage projects

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Advanced degree desirable. Certifications such as CFA or FRM are a plus
