Job Description

The Interior Cockpit Design and Release (D&R) Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, validating, and releasing Instrument Panel and Console Systems, subsystems, and components for the assigned programs. The D&R Engineer will ensure the designed components meet the packaging space requirement and can interact with surround systems/components as they are required to. These components must meet stringent functional requirements that simulate the real-life customer usage of automotive vehicles with all environmental effects included. Responsibilities also include managing costs, weight, and program timing, and ensuring the manufacturing feasibility for the assigned components.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with Program cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing targets.
  • Comply with Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Quality History, P – Diagram, FMEA, etc.)
  • Monitor the development of Interior Cockpit for Ford vehicles according to company-specific benchmarks.
  • Participate in the Sourcing Process (Lead To4 and To5 discussions, ED&T review, piece price and tooling cost review and CPA).
  • Design parts in order to comply with Corporate and Local Requirements for parts validation, considering the WCR (Worldwide Customers Requirements), ES (Engineering Specifications) and SDS (Systems Design specifications) as well as the Manufacturing and Assembly requirements.
  • Translate customer, regulatory, and product requirements into engineering targets.
  • Release parts in FEDEBOM and WERS through the product life cycle. Support the Change Control Meeting.
  • Responsible of incorporation of new designs and engineering changes at the Assembly Plant and leading discussions with involved parties including suppliers.
  • Responsible to look for design improvements to increase quality and cost / weight optimization.
  • DPA1 thru 5, AIMS resolution.
  • Parts implementation/Sign-off in assembly plant & assistance with quality issues in all milestones.
  • Support VQR, VRTs and PVT as required.
  • Support suppliers and assembly departments with current production quality and manufacturing issues.
  • Support production part approval processes (PPAP) for mass production.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.​
  • 3+ years of experience working as a D&R Engineer or similar, Instrument Panel and Console preferred.
  • Understand and apply GPDS (Global Product Development System) process.
  • Knowledge and application of six sigma and 8D, among other problem-solving tools.
  • Significant problem-solving skills previously demonstrated.
  • Knowledge of Ford software systems: AIMS, WERS, FEDE, FEDEBOM, Teamcenter, Digital Buck, Catia.
  • 3D CAD knowledge (opening files, visualization, measurements, etc.).
  • Good program management skills with the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously and prioritize appropriately.​
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others as part of a team. ​
  • Strong knowledge of materials properties and production process.
