Your impact

We’re seeking a Pipelines Engineer to align to any of our Northwest geography locations to assist with planning, evaluation, engineering, design, and construction support services for a variety of related projects. In this role, you’ll work with other members of our local, regional, and national teams to perform specialized engineering assignments for pipeline projects of varied sizes, configurations, and capacities, and for a variety of potential clients. Pipeline engagements may involve potable water, wastewater, irrigation, hydropower, and stormwater applications, supporting water transmission, distribution, collection, treatment facilities, flood control, industrial facilities, or other purposes. This work includes evaluation and design of pipelines, alignments, hydraulics, and associated conveyance and control installations, as well as the development of design drawings, specifications, and technical reports. You will also evaluate existing pipeline performance, operations, and condition to provide recommendations on rehabilitation and replacement of pipeline infrastructure systems. For this work, you will coordinate with other project disciplines, direct the work of CADD designers and early-career engineering staff, and conduct occasional field activities such as site assessment, data collection, analysis, documentation, and construction support.

Depending on project size and complexity, you’ll have the opportunity to serve as a technical subject matter expert, task lead, design manager, and/or in project management roles performing technical tasks, quality control, and coordinating the use of resources to support multiple, concurrent projects through all phases of planning, execution, and closeout. You’ll also contribute to client engagement and development, and professional services marketing, sales, and business development pursuits.

Here's what you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date.

• Minimum of five to ten years of progressive engineering experience specializing in the planning, evaluation, and design of pressurized and/or gravity water utility piping systems (potable, stormwater, wastewater, etc.), including with varied rigid and flexible pipe materials, joint technologies, ages, and sizes, below and above grade, in seismically active and corrosive environments.

• Core technical experience with pipeline hydraulic and structural design and evaluation, including analysis of flow velocities and volumetric capacity, flow depths, profiles, pressures, surcharging, loading, support, stress, thrust, restraint, friction, headloss, slope, and grade.

• Core technical experience with water pipeline conveyance structures, fittings, valves, and valve stations, flow and pressure management, measurement, and control, differential settlement, thermal expansion and contraction, hydraulic transient management, corrosion protection, linings and coatings, cathodic protection, hot tapping and line stops, pig launching and retrieval stations, and pipeline and utility related fittings and appurtenances.

• Varied and progressive experience with horizontal and vertical pipeline alignments, utility conflict identification, mitigation, and resolution, as well as public/private right-of-way, utility franchise agreements, and easement routing.

• Familiarity with related technical and industry standards, regulations, and requirements.

• Familiarity with other related engineering and technical disciplines such as site civil, mechanical, architectural, structural, electrical, instrumentation and controls, geotechnical, environmental, plumbing, HVAC, landscaping, permitting, construction, and operations.

• Demonstrated experience working and collaborating effectively within multi-disciplinary teams, both internally and with and external and client partners, to accomplish complex engineering, planning, and design assignments.

• Experience developing design drawings, technical specifications, and reports.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate, collaborate, and self-manage your focus and engagements to deliver effectively on project and production delivery commitments and requirements with minimal oversight.

Ideally you’ll also have:

• Master's degree in a discipline listed above.

• Up to fifteen or more years of experience working in pipeline and related engineering roles.

• Experience with hydraulic modeling analysis and software, transient analysis and modeling, and/or CADD design tools.

• Planning, evaluation, and design experience with pipeline trenchless construction methods, pipeline condition assessment and rehabilitation, and/or with pipeline related services during construction, construction oversight, and in testing, commissioning, and startup.

• Experience in the analysis of pipeline infrastructure lifecycle, renewal, rehabilitation, and replacement economics, and planning for current and future design conditions.

• Pump station and/or hydropower related experience.

• Task lead and/or design management experience for pipeline systems
