The Microsoft portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. In this unique engineering position as aSenior Power Harvesting Electrical Engineer, you will join a team of professional Subject Matter Experts to, innovate, and deliver Power Harvesting engineering solutions through engineering modeling techniques, feasibility assessment, statistical analysis and more, to support Power Harvesting capacity demands at scale.

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in construction/engineering/operation of hyperscale datacenters or similar large scale and complex engineering systems.
  • 2+years experience in datacenter critical environment.
  • Experience withdatacenterGPUandGeneral Computedeploymentand layouts.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and government security background screening requirements for this role. These requirements currently include, but may change, and are not limited to:
    • Microsoft Cloud Screen Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Screen background check upon hire/transfer and every two years after that while in this role.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Experience with datacenter design and operation with the ability to assess "failover" modes, as well as existing redundancy, and form factors.
  • Knowledge of automated workflow processes and solutions.
  • Knowledge and experience in data center design, operation and fit out.
  • Understanding of electrical and cooling theory with practical application.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, terminology, and documentation (ability to interpret blueprints, electrical one-lines, construction drawings etc.).
  • Experience with building automation and electrical power monitoring systems.
  • Ability to use Kusto Query for statistical data analysis.
  • Experience using the Microsoft (MS) Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Visio, Bluebeam Revu.
  • Effective analytical and organizational skills.
  • Effective problem-solving, judgment, team building, and decision-making skills.

Electrical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation. Senior Power Harvesting Electrical Engineerwill directly support the global DCE Global Power Harvesting & Strategy Team.

  • Perform detailed analysis of datacenter Space, Power, Cooling and Network, (SPCN) assessment toidentifypower harvesting opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Power Harvesting (PH) program managers and local site teams to develop site specific Power Harvesting strategy and plans of execution.
  • Developdatacenterdeploymentlayout for bothCompute and Graphics Processing Units (GPU)at the Co-Location (COLO) level.
  • Develop creative and innovative solutions toutilizeotherwise strandedcapacitywhile keeping all customer services secure.
  • Seekemerging and proactive opportunities tooptimizeMicrosoft’s installedcapacityand increase revenues for the business.
  • Develop engineering models forcapacityrecovery, stranded reduction, and “failover” analysis.
  • Leverage automation solutions to innovate and enhance engineering modeling and streamline engineering processes.
  • Work with Capacity Planning teams to mitigatecapacitygaps with innovative approaches.
  • Align with project execution teams to ensure all work is planned and executed without impact to Microsoft’s Critical Environment.
  • Initiate cross-functional partnerships within the global engineering groups to jointly deliveradditionalcloudcapacity.
  • Develop and follow published organizational and business processes and procedures.
  • Initiate, understand, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Partner with peer organizations in evaluating and selecting appropriate Power Harvesting opportunities in support of changing demand and varied complex conditions.
  • Be point person responsible for assessing Space, Power, Cooling and Network, (SPCN) while always ensuring customer load is prioritized.
  • Understand network growth strategies, site design constraints, regional limitations, and business plans.
  • Be able to communicate technical issues, risks, mitigations, assumptions, and constraints to propose solutions in a clear, and concise manner for the consumption of non-technical audiences.
