Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilites:

  • Work with the team members to identify the root cause of the metrology equipment failures and come up with working solutions. This involves designing prototype components in Solid Works, manufacturing them in the workshop and installing/testing them in the equipment.
  • Come up with mechanical design ideas to improve the measurement efficiency and accuracy of the lab. equipment and execute them.
  • Become proficient in using the lab. equipment and provide data when requested.
Qualifications

Required:

  • BS EE, ME, Material Sciences and 5+ years of experience in related industries or MS EE, ME, Material Sciences and 3+ years of experience in related industries
  • Familiar with SAFE OPERATION of machine tools: Metal lathe, Knee mill, Drill press, Band saw, Sheet metal shear, Sheet metal box brake, Pedestal grinder, Belt sander, Surface plate with height gauge.
  • Proficient with Solid Works CAD for designing mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of designing and integrating mechanical components for mechanical and thermal stability used in optical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of dangers and safely working around high power, class IV lasers.
  • Able to work around very high magnetic fields is a must.
  • Knowledge of Electrical, Pneumatics, Electronics, and reading/creating schematics of each is a plus.
  • Knowledge of magnetic characterization methodologies, vacuum components and automated wafer transportation systems is highly desirable.
  • Innovative, capable to generate solutions to complex problems from idea to implementation.
  • Ability to work independently in a team with diverse backgrounds.

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan.
