Our Purpose:

Our Research and Development team is all about building the future of the operating room and office for urology patients and clinicians.  As an Engineering Intern, you'll be at the heart of that mission, developing best-in-class capital systems and processes as part of our comprehensive portfolio of solutions.  During your Intern experience, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the industry through collaborating with some of the most dynamic minds in the business.  All in an environment that encourages people to take measured risks, learn from mistakes, and push the boundaries of engineering.

As a R&D Intern at Boston Scientific, you will…

  • Contribute meaningfully to new product development – the work assigned to co-ops helps drive our future products toward regulatory approval and commercial launch.

  • Support solutions to a variety of problems where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from results.

  • Prepare standard reports/documentation to communicate results to a technical community.

  • Assist in troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material, or process.

  • Engage with internal company contacts. Uses diplomacy and tact in interactions and problem solving.

  • Translate customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.

  • Train technicians/operators on new processes and/or test procedures

  • Support concepts and designs for new products/processes and submits idea disclosures.

  • Exact duties depend on the candidate – we strive to find the overlap between a student’s interest and current project needs.

  • Work cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on projects of varying complexity to ensure project success.

  • Explore career options within and outside of R&D – network and collaborate with employees to learn about other job functions (e.g. Marketing, Regulatory, Clinical Affairs, Process Development) and company divisions (Cardiac Rhythm Management, Neuromodulation, Endoscopy, etc.)

  • Work on personal development goals – take dedicated time to advance your skills beyond engineering, for example public speaking, data presentation, interviewing, and networking.

  • Join in any activities and events available to full-time employees – BSC has many professional groups (e.g. Society of Women Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) and Employee Resource Groups (typically formed around a specific diversity dimension such as gender, race, sexual orientation or life-stage) with regular programming.

Your Impact

  • Assists in the development and analysis of products, materials, processes, or equipment.  Under direct supervision/guidance, compiles, analyzes and reports operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes, or materials.

  • In all actions, demonstrates a primary commitment to patient safety and product quality by maintaining compliance with the Quality Policy and all other documented quality processes and procedures.

Your Qualifications:

  • Current Bachelor's student in your Senior year or grad student. Must have at least one semester of school left post-internship to qualify.

  • Pursuing degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, Systems, Materials, or Packaging Engineering.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams.

  • Passion to learn new technologies and find new solutions.
