What You'll Do
- Provide legal counsel on AI governance and compliance issues, including risk assessments, internal governance frameworks and the application of regulatory and other legal considerations to the use of AI/ML in our products and features.
- Assist in the development and implementation of AI-related policies, guidelines, and governance processes to ensure compliance with emerging AI regulations.
- Support cross-functional AI governance initiatives, ensuring alignment between Legal, Compliance, Tech, and Business teams.
- Collaborate with global regulatory and other legal and policy teams to monitor and analyze emerging AI laws, regulations, and industry best practices to assess their impact on Uber’s business.
- Assist in developing regulatory compliance strategies and advising on legal risks related to AI-driven products and automated decision-making.
- Work with internal stakeholders to prepare reports, risk assessments, and other documentation to support compliance with AI regulations.
- Support collaboration between Legal, Compliance, Engineering, Public Policy, and Communications teams to ensure AI policies and practices are consistent and well-communicated.
- Help coordinate efforts to develop clear, accessible narratives around Uber’s AI models to promote transparency and address regulatory and public concerns.
- Work with internal teams to track and manage AI-related governance projects, including documentation of high-risk model assessments and compliance reviews.
- Support efforts to develop and refine AI model validation, testing, and governance procedures in collaboration with Compliance and Tech teams.
Basic Qualifications
- J.D. degree and license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5+ years of legal experience, with a focus on technology law, compliance, AI governance, or regulatory affairs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with AI/ML regulations and governance frameworks, such as GDPR, the EU AI Act, and other emerging standards.
- Experience providing legal counsel on AI, data privacy, or algorithmic decision-making in an in-house, government, or law firm setting.
- Strong ability to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues and communicate clearly with non-legal stakeholders.
- Experience working cross-functionally with product, engineering, compliance, and policy teams.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$208,000 per year - USD$231,000 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$208,000 per year - USD$231,000 per year.
For Washington, DC-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$208,000 per year - USD$231,000 per year.
