As a Tax Services Senior Manager, you will be a part of our Global Compliance & Reporting (GCR) group. In this role, you will develop the technical proficiency and connectivity to address client issues as well as develop as a well-rounded, quality-focused tax professional. As a member of E&Y's GCR practice, you will develop the combination of deep tax knowledge and a sophisticated understanding of business drivers to serve your clients to the best of your ability. This position is in Ottawa and offers an excellent opportunity for learning and career advancement to the right candidate.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Planning and organizing teams for the execution of a variety of corporate, personal, trust and partnership assignments including compliance, information reporting, assurance and advisory
  • Advising on technical matters, process and procedure modification
  • Performing compliance, tax accounting analysis and technical research reviews
  • Conducting and documenting tax research
  • Coaching and mentoring more junior staff to execute assignments with accuracy and completeness
  • Leading tax engagement teams in serving the tax needs of clients
  • Establish relationships with clients and gain a solid understanding of their business
  • Comfortable with business development, networking and promotion in a variety of client-facing situations
  • Enhance technical skills by remaining up-to-date on trends, new legislative developments and tax authority decisions, and apply them to complex situations relevant to the client
  • Identify opportunities for providing tax planning and other special services and contribute to thought leadership materials
  • Support the development and coaching of tax professionals within a team environment
  • Participate in and contribute to the attainment of team objectives

To qualify for the role you must have

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field and a minimum of 8 years of tax experience
  • An accounting designation or other related experience or certification relevant to an area of specialization
  • Completion of CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course
  • Ability to lead small, medium and large sized client engagements and interact effectively with clients and internal team members
  • The successful candidate must lead by example and have proven leadership/people management skills
  • Ability to research and write utilizing electronic tax tools
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Strong tax accounting and assurance skills
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Process oriented with excellent documentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
