In this role, the Electrical Engineering professional will support aviation projects at general aviation and commercial airfields with a focus on quality and performance in a team environment. This role supports our New England aviation practice, and is based out of our Bedford, NH (preferred) or Boston, MA offices, but offers opportunity to work on projects nationwide. Such projects include, but are not limited to: airfield lighting improvements, navigational aid installations, and other transportation projects such as terminal improvements and high mast lighting for aviation clients. The professional will:

  • Perform tasks and aspects of aviation projects, including interface with clients, subconsultants, contractors, and other outside agencies under the supervision of senior engineering staff.
  • Conceptualize the initial electrical design approach for airfield improvements and related projects and continue through the design phase as part of a design team.
  • Use AutoCAD and electrical engineering theories, precepts and practices to execute project tasks.
  • Plan and conduct work requiring evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria including construction codes and FAA standards.
  • Resolve complex engineering problems.
  • Coordinate electrical design efforts with other disciplines of design staff in order to engage a broader understanding of operations on the airfield, and expedite construction where possible.
  • Consult with project manager on unusual problems and developments and manage change requests.
  • Participate in contract bidding and administration.
  • Observe project construction on site and coordinate construction management related tasks as a resident engineer for multi-week to multi-month assignments during the New England construction season (typically late Spring to early Fall).

Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of personnel and management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients, outside agencies, and contractors.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision.

Candidates ideally may already have any the following skills which will be developed while fulfilling the duties of this position:

  • EIT (Engineering in Training) certificate
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Microstation,
  • Knowledge of AGi32 or Visual Lighting Software
  • Experience utilizing SKM or ETAP software
  • Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars, Standards, and Orders
  • Familiarity with airfield lighting power distribution and equipment , FAA NAVAIDS, power distribution systems, sustainability initiatives, telecommunication systems, emergency power or mission critical systems.
