Responsibilities
WebSphere Application Server administrator with total experience of 5 to 8 yrs and relevant experience of 4 to 5 yrs. Will be responsible for performing routine administration tasks including managing change requests related to WebSphere Application Server configurations, performance tuning and maintenance. Staying updated with the latest features, best practices, and industry trends related to WebSphere Application Server administration. Identifying opportunities for process improvements, automation, and optimization. Responding to alerts and taking appropriate actions to address issues. Maintaining documentation related to server configurations, deployment procedures, troubleshooting steps, and any changes made to the system.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
The Scope of Work include the following responsibilities and tasks other than “ticket” based administration experience.
- Installing and configuration of WebSphere Application Server software on the target environment.
- Routine administrative tasks such as starting and stopping servers, monitoring server health, and managing server resources.
- Able to troubleshoot and resolve basic issues such as startup failures, connectivity problems, or application deployment errors.
- Able to create and manage user accounts, roles, and permissions within WebSphere Application Server to control access and security.
- Able to monitor server performance metrics, such as CPU usage, memory consumption, and response times, and reporting any anomalies or performance issues.
- Review and analyze server logs to identify errors, warnings, or other issues that may affect the server or application performance.
- Configure security settings such as SSL certificates, authentication mechanisms, and authorization policies.
- Applying patches, updates, and fixes to WebSphere Application.
- Keeping up to date with the latest security patches, updates, and fixes released by IBM for WebSphere Application Server.
- Planning and executing patch management activities, ensuring minimal disruption to production environments.
- Integrating WebSphere Application Server with web servers, such as IBM HTTP Server or Apache HTTP Server, to handle load balancing, caching, and SSL termination.
- Configuring WebSphere Application Server for high availability, including setting up server clusters, load balancing, and failover mechanisms to ensure uninterrupted application availability

- Implementing backup strategies for WebSphere Application Server configurations, applications, and data.
- Performing regular backups and ensuring the ability to restore the system in case of failures or data loss.
- Configuring monitoring tools and setting up alerts for critical events, resource usage thresholds, and performance bottlenecks.
- Assessing resource utilization trends and making recommendations for capacity upgrades or optimizations based on projected usage and performance requirements.
- Documentation and reporting: Providing regular reports on server health, performance, and incidents to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Developing and maintaining scripts or automation tools to streamline administrative tasks, such as application deployments, configuration updates, and system monitoring.
- Configuring integration with other middleware components, such as IBM MQ or IBM Integration Bus, to facilitate seamless communication and data exchange between applications.
